Reporting to the Chief Ambulance Officer, the primary purpose of the Interim Chief Medical Officer is to collaborate in a dyad relationship with the Chief Paramedic Practice, and the Clinical Governance Review Steering Committee, to provide strategic advice to BCEHS on matters relating to paramedicine and paramedic models of care, including policy and clinical practice and standards, and the co-creation of an Office of Paramedic Practice at BCEHS.

Working with PHSA, Ministry of Health, the EMALB, shareholders, other health care providers and partners and education providers to contribute to the construct of a new clinical governance model for paramedics, will contribute to an integrated, multi-disciplinary approach to the health and well-being of British Columbians accessing 911 services. The I/Chief Medical Officer, in collaboration with the Chief Paramedic Practice, will promote robust clinical governance and patient safety, and will lead the development of contemporary paramedic practice in BCEHS.

**What you'll do**:

- Provide clinical advice to inform the development of an Office of Paramedic Practice at BCEHS
- Work in collaboration with the I/Chief Paramedic Practice, and others, to:

- develop regulations, standards, job descriptions and policies for the Office of Paramedic Practice at BCEHS
- Contribute to the development of an environmental scan detailing similar models to the Office of Paramedic Practice
- Develop local networks, relationships, and communities of practice with other agencies and professionals.
- Contribute to the development of a framework for regulation of paramedics in BC.
- Develop strong linkages with key academic, training providers and paramedicine providers to deliver contemporary and high-quality paramedic models of care, including a degree entry-to-practice model for paramedics.
- In collaboration, identify appropriate key performance indicators, roles and responsibilities, and a set of accountabilities for the Regional Medical Directors.
- Provide clinical advice relating to paramedic clinical policy and standards, education and training standards, safety, and quality improvement.
- Provide advice in relation to paramedic collaboration in multi-disciplinary approaches to health care needs in the community.
- Collaborate with the Chief Paramedic Practice to provide system-level advice on the design, delivery, and monitoring of paramedic services, including development of appropriate performance measures and performance improvement strategies.
- Integrate and improve overall strategic provision of health care both in paramedicine and across the health care system.
- Contribute to a robust clinical governance and patient safety framework, including adherence to Accreditation Canada standards.
- Collaborate with paramedics and professional leadership to include the development of local networks and communities of practice in paramedicine, establishing professional relationships all levels.
- Provide input into the BCEHS culture strategy and health workforce planning.
- Promote a well-governed, vibrant, and productive research culture within paramedicine practice in BCEHS.
- Actively participate in and contribute to the organisation’s Quality & Safety, Risk Management and Accreditation processes, including in the development and implementation of safety systems, improvement initiatives and related training.

**Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities**:

- In collaboration with the Chief Paramedic Practice, provide high level leadership to those working in paramedicine in BCEHS.
- In collaboration with the Chief Paramedic Practice, manage a staff of Regional Medical Directors and EPOS clinicians.
- Maintain a contemporaneous knowledge of clinical practice and the developments in paramedicine nationally and internationally, providing high level advice to BCEHS, including development of policy and regulations.
- Always comply with policy and protocol requirements, including those relating to mandatory education, training, and assessment.
