**POLICE CONSTABLE - LATERAL TRANSFER**

**Job Title**:Police Constable - Lateral Transfer**:
**Department**: Hamilton Police Service

**Hours of Work**: 12-hour shift rotation, 24 hours/day, 365 days/year

**Salary Range**: 1st Class Constable: $105,507 - $115,005 annually (As of January 1, 2020)

As a Hamilton Police Constable, your role will be to serve and protect in partnership with our communities. A Police Constable must work closely with people from all races, cultures, and backgrounds to ensure public safety through proactive crime prevention and law enforcement. You will have the opportunity to build relationships in the community, show sensitivity to others, and demonstrate concern for the needs of others. **GENERAL DUTIES**:

- Preserve the peace
- Prevent crimes and other offences, and provide assistance and encouragement to other persons in their prevention
- Assist victims of crime
- Apprehend criminals and other offenders and others who may lawfully be taken into custody
- Lay charges and participate in prosecutions
- Execute warrants that are to be executed by police officers and perform related duties
- Perform the lawful duties that the Chief of Police assigns

**REQUIREMENTS**:
**MINIMUM REQUIRMENTS**:

- Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident of Canada
- Be at least eighteen (18) years of age
- Minimum grade 12 Diploma (or equivalent); Post-Secondary education is considered an asset
- No criminal record/convictions for which a pardon has not been granted
- Successfully completed probation with current service (minimum 1 year)
- Must be physically and mentally able to perform the job, having regard for their own safety and the safety of members of the public, and maintain a good level of physical fitness
- Advanced English communication and comprehension skills; additional languages are an asset

**REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS**:

- Have obtained a Basic Constable Training (BCT) Diploma from the Ontario Police College or via the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), or obtained an equivalency from the Ontario Police College (OPC)
- Valid Class G Driver's Licence, or the equivalent, with no more than six (6) accumulated demerit points (must be permitted to drive automobile in Ontario with full driving privileges)
- Valid Standard First Aid and CPR (Basic Rescuer Level C) certification (must be obtained before offer of employment)

**DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Post-Secondary Education (Trades, College, University, or Military experience considered an asset)
- Continuous learning/self-improvement (e.g. post-secondary courses, workshops, seminars, or any ongoing personal development activity)
- Commitment to community involvement (e.g. volunteering)
- Knowledge of and commitment to Policing in the City of Hamilton

- Behavioural Interview (60 minute interview - focus on desirable competencies)
- Psychological Assessment
- Panel Interview
- Medical Assessment (Completed by family doctor)
- Offer of Employment
