The Opportunity
The Chief Operations Officer (COO) role is accountable directly to the regional HUB President for executing the company’s mission, overall strategy, and business plan. The COO demonstrates a thorough understanding of operational practices and actively demonstrates skills required in working collaboratively with the Executive Management Team (EMT).
Within broad strategic guidelines, benefiting from the direction of the President, and in close collaboration with the Executive Management Team, the COO will operate strategically in a high-performing, fast-paced and dynamic environment to successfully achieve the company’s overall vision and goals.
As the most senior operational leader in the region and a key member of HUB’s local Executive Management Team, the COO is responsible for the development and execution of overall operational strategy within the HUB region.
Our Burnaby office location is our head office and is centrally located in the Willingdon Business Park. This location is easily accessible by the Gilmore sky train station with many shops, restaurants, and other amenities nearby.
The Responsibilities
Work with the President on creating of company business plan driving the operational strategy.
Advise the President and other senior management team members on key planning issues and make recommendations on important business decisions.
Oversee strategic planning and resource allocation consistent with constraints of the budget and financial performance.
Work with the Regional VP’s, CMO, CSO and VP of Operations to identify operational inefficiencies and areas for improvement to better support the business and help develop strategic solutions.
Identify locations that are failing to achieve our expectations of performance and work with the management team to create solutions and action plans.
Work with the VP of Operations and Regional V.P.’s to set operational or performance goals that are tied into the strategic plan of the company.
Provide operational leadership and input for all strategic plan implementation processes.
Provide effective and inspiring leadership by being actively involved in all programs and services, developing a broad and deep knowledge of the brokerage insurance industry.
Identify opportunities for client and take advantage of new opportunities and/or to address organizational challenges.
Lead, coach, develop, and retain high-performance senior leadership team with an emphasis on developing capacity in strategic analysis, planning and operational initiatives.
Develop and implement educational programs to expand the capacity of all staff.
Prepare and submit an annual budget forecast, manage effectively within this forecast, and report accurately on progress made and challenges encountered.
Work with the President to determine the right number of employees required for all positions making sure we have the right people in the right positions.
Identify areas for possible centralization of activities and job duties to maximize efficiencies.
Report to the Hub President and communicate frequently about strategic initiatives and progress.
Support overall strategic plan; establish operational strategic vision, objectives, policies and procedures for the plan.
Facilitate operational oversight for multiple departments and identify opportunities for maintaining the most efficient operation.
The Requirements
Minimum XX years’ insurance brokerage experience in an operational capacity
Minimum XX years’ experience managing senior leaders.
Industry designation (CAIB, CIP, FCIP, CRM) with a broad knowledge of both personal, commercial and employee benefit insurance matters
Works well under pressure while demonstrating excellent leadership & motivational skills.
Ability to strategize and manage complex tasks with competing priorities, provide analysis, and monitor quality metrics.
Experience engaging a wide range of stakeholders and cultures within a competitive and rapidly changing work environment.
