**About Us**:
The International and Intergovernmental Relations (IIR) unit was created to advance and develop Alberta's strategic international interests and relationships, manage Alberta's international policy interests, manage Alberta's intergovernmental relationships within Canada, and support Alberta's economic growth/recovery and diversification efforts.

This team develops intergovernmental strategies on issues of importance to Alberta and Canada, with its partners, clients and stakeholders, to address challenges and grow opportunities. They coordinate Alberta's leadership and participation within the Canadian federation in pursuit of a federal system that best serves the needs of Albertans and Canadians.

**Role**:
Put your extensive analytic skills to good use by joining a dynamic team of professionals in the Executive Council (Intergovernmental/Federal/Provincial Relations).

This opportunity provides support to the Executive Council Ministry’s core business in the areas of intergovernmental relations by providing strategic advice and policy analysis, disseminating information, coordinating Alberta’s policy approach and activities, and advancing Alberta’s interests.

Your role as the Associate Director monitors political, program and service developments in the context of intergovernmental policy and works with other Alberta government Ministries and the entire Intergovernmental Relations Division team to advance a consistent and a coordinated approach to the province’s intergovernmental agenda.

Specific responsibilities include:

- Providing intergovernmental liaison support in the areas of strategic advice, policy analysis, and information analysis and dissemination, as identified in the Ministry’s Business Plan.
- Providing support to client departments in intergovernmental issues and negotiations, agreements, and meetings
- Providing government information and communicating the Government of Alberta Policy positions to stakeholders
- Providing updates in intergovernmental initiatives in assigned policy fields
- Providing assistance in coordinating Alberta’s participation in intergovernmental meetings and conferences (e.g., Council of Federation meetings, Western Premiers’ Conference meetings, New West Partnership meetings, First Ministers’ meetings, etc.)
- Participating in business planning activities to develop policy recommendations and strategies about intergovernmental policy/strategy and other related issues as they emerge.

**Qualifications**:

- University graduation in Political Science, Canadian Studies, or a related discipline supplemented by four years related experience

**Equivalencies to be considered as below**:

- Related experience or education may be considered as an equivalency on a one for one basis.

**Assets**:

- Thorough knowledge of the Canadian Federal System of Government (Canadian Federalism)
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Experience in academic research techniques
- Experience in intergovernmental relations, policy development and/or project management

**Salary**:
$3,100.79 to $ 4,172.77 bi-weekly ($80,930 to $108,909/year)
