**Program and Learning (Central Department) as**:
Secondary Long-Term Occasional Teacher

The Itinerant Inuktitut Language Teacher will work with identified designated schools to promote Inuktitut language via land-based learning, teaching tools, community programming and teaching resources. This position will build on the plan to attract and retain Inuktitut language learners within the OCDSB, as well as helping the District expand in its high school enrollment in Inuktitut over the next three years. This role will help support expansion of Inuktitut offerings to designated schools in the district, by infusing the Inuktitut language into daily classroom and school learning opportunities.

The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board (OCDSB) is seeking a dedicated and proficient Inuktitut Language Facilitator to join our team. As an Inuktitut Language Facilitator, you will play a crucial role in supporting the preservation and promotion of the Inuktitut language within our educational programs.

Develop and deliver comprehensive Inuktitut language instruction to students, educators, and staff, utilizing innovative and culturally relevant teaching methods.

Collaborate with Indigenous Education Council Language Inuit stakeholders and Indigenous Languages Coordinator to create and enhance Algonquin language curriculum materials, ensuring alignment with provincial standards and cultural sensitivity.

Integrate Inuit cultural elements into language instruction, providing students with a holistic understanding of the language within its cultural context.

Foster positive relationships with students, families, community, local Indigenous organizations, and language revitalization initiatives to enhance language learning opportunities both inside and outside the classroom.

Implement effective assessment strategies to measure student progress and adjust instructional methods accordingly. Provide constructive feedback to support continuous improvement.

Stay informed about current developments in Inuktitut language education and attend relevant workshops or training to enhance teaching skills and knowledge.

Collaborate with other language facilitators, educators, and support staff to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment for all students.

Advocate for the inclusion and recognition of Inuktitut language education within the broader educational community and work towards creating a culturally responsive learning environment.

Fluency in Inuktitut is essential.

Bachelor's degree in education (prioritized but not essential), Indigenous studies, Lived experience or a related field.

Strong understanding of the Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit principles

Teaching experience with a focus on language instruction.

Knowledge of Inuit culture, history, and traditions.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to collaborate effectively with educators, students, and community members.

Order of Consideration

A minimum of 3 qualified applicants will be offered an interview, including:
At least three (3) teachers, who are currently employed as an occasional teacher with the OCDSB, who have the required OCT qualifications, and who best meet the criteria outlined in the job posting.

If fewer than three (3) qualified applicants apply, all qualified applicants will be interviewed.

Application Process

Teachers can teach a maximum of three (3) classes within a semester, which equals 100%. For those working at IB sites or Alternate sites, a teacher can teach a maximum of six (6) classes across the school year, which equals 100%.
