The incumbent is part of the team that collaborates with individual faculty members, teaching assistants and other instructors across Nursing. The focus will be assisting faculty and staff in the development and implementation of programs and initiatives to advance the University of Windsor’s and the FON’s efforts to include Indigenous knowledge and ways of knowing in curricula and teaching practices, as well as building relationships with the Indigenous communities. The LS-AAS provides research, technical and organization support for academic Indigenous projects, in keeping with the commitment to the _Truth and Reconciliation Commission _and the Universities Canada _Principles on Indigenous Education._ This work will take a variety of forms, focused in the areas of teaching, service, and research.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
**Teaching**:The Learning Specialist will engage in teaching, which may include credit and non-credit courses, workshops, seminars and mini courses. Teaching may be at the level of undergraduate students, graduate students and faculty members. Activities undertaken in fulfillment of the Learning Specialist’s teaching responsibilities may include: course organization and promotion, developing learning outcomes, identifying and creating teaching and learning resources, determining delivery methods and teaching strategies, developing learning materials, writing syllabi, assessing and evaluating student achievement, collecting and employing student/participant feedback for course improvement and assessing program/course impact.

**Pedagogical Service**: The incumbent will make important contributions to nursing programs for education development. The main focus of this service will be indigenization of curriculum and pedagogies, and helping to build relationships with Indigenous communities, Elders and Knowledge Holders. They will participate in initiating and coordinating programs offered by the FON and implementing/revising existing FON programs through individual consultations, mentoring and at times teaching observations to support faculty, sessional instructors, and graduate students in their development of teaching skills. They will support faculty colleagues, graduate students, and other instructors working with Indigenous pedagogies and knowledges, and support the further development of the FON’s teaching and learning culture. The Learning Specialist will represent the University when required, and will work to connect with local, provincial, national, and international initiatives.

**Scholarly Activity**: The Learning Specialist will demonstrate a scholarly approach to teaching and will lead and support others in developing scholarship in the area of teaching and learning and support of Indigenous knowledges and ways of knowing. This includes being aware of Indigenous Knowledge Holders and alternative forms of sharing knowledge. In addition, the incumbent will promote the growth of a climate of scholarly teaching and learning, which might include taking on roles such as reviewer, editor, and research collaborator, or other forms of connection and sharing knowledge.
- BScN degree and currently registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario; in good standing with no practice restrictions.
- A graduate degree in a field relevant to the duties and responsibilities of the position (Ph.D. preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience in an Indigenous field)
- Self-identifies as an Indigenous person, and is a recognized member of the First Nations, Inuit or Métis peoples of Canada, with lived experience
- Successful teaching experience at the post-secondary level
- Experience in educational development, including workshop design and facilitation, consultation, teaching and learning resource development and event coordination, with preference for experience in the University context
- Knowledge of course and curriculum design, learning outcomes and alignment
- Strong knowledge of pedagogy, Indigenous pedagogy and effective practices, and the complexities of Indigenization in education
- Expertise in Indigenous knowledges, epistemologies, methodologies, histories, traditions, protocols and/or languages and respect for Indigenous identities and values
- Knowledge of the TRC’s Final Report and Calls to Action including colonial history and the impacts of colonization
- Demonstrated experience establishing connections with Indigenous communities and Indigenous professional networks, and in building mutually respectful and lasting relationships with colleagues, Elders, Knowledge Holders, and other members of Indigenous communities
