Newcomer Integration Specialist

**Job Summary**
Working as part of a team, the main priorities for Newcomers Integration Specialist are to provide direct settlement, employment, housing and orientation services to address the needs of newcomers eligible for British Columbia Newcomer Services Program (BCNSP - BC SAF HAVN).
**Duties and Responsibilities**
- Review needs assessments to identify the newcomer needs across a broad spectrum of settlement areas including language, employment, education, housing, etc.
- Develop individual settlement action plans with clients, including goals to achieve settlement success as outlined in the CVIMS logic model
- Identify and arrange support services as required: housing, transportation, childminding, crisis counselling, interpreting & translation, etc. Conduct regular and thorough client follow up; monitor and review the client progress
- Participate in settlement planning activities, monitor changes in immigration policies, develop and share resources for improved service delivery among colleagues on Vancouver Island (Nanaimo, Duncan and Victoria)
- Facilitate appropriate referrals and access to services in the community; build client awareness of community and other resources to deal with settlement issues
- Support opportunities for mentoring, volunteer matching, and peer support; connecting newcomers to Canadian citizens, employers, community organizations & public institutions
- Promote variety of orientation and life skills sessions organized by CVIMS and other community partners to broaden the participant’s knowledge of life in Canada and to ease the integration into a community
- Develop partnerships with service providers and businesses to promote BCNSP / BCSAF HAVN funded programs and services and effectively link clients with appropriate community resources
- Participate in regular staff conferencing and briefings to ensure excellence in client service
- Record accurate information and maintain complete and up-to-date client records; enter data into OCMS
- Record statistics, assist in the preparation of reports and other duties as required
**Qualifications and Requirements**
- Relevant Post-Secondary education in Social Services or a related field, or equivalent combination of experience and education
- Knowledge and understanding of multiculturalism, diversity and immigration issues
- Cultural competency and sensitivity; understanding of the needs of new immigrants to Canada
- Knowledge of community resources for newcomers to Canada
- Strong knowledge of Canada and Canadian culture
- Experience working with people from a variety of ethno-racial backgrounds or marginalized populations
- Superior inter-personal and communication skills; excellent spoken and written English skills
- Fluency in a second language would be an asset
- Knowledge of OCMS reporting system would be an asset
- Some work outside of regular office hours, including evenings and weekends, will be required
- Valid CRC and First Aide Certificate
- Clean driving abstract, access to vehicle required as outreach will occur in surrounding communities of Ladysmith and Parksville.
**Job Type**: Part-time
Pay: From $24.00 per hour
Expected hours: No more than 20 per week
