**Job Summary**:
The Editor is responsible for the proofreading and copy editing of written documents, in preparation for final publication.

**Major Responsibilities**
- Ensure production of high-quality products by establishing, communicating and maintaining standards as they relate to report structure, context, cohesiveness, messaging, information layering, analysis, narrative, accessibility, clarity and impact, and ensuring the standards evolve according to client expectations.
- Review all products by editing, refining and correcting the content (including grammatical and punctuation errors), as necessary, under tight deadlines.
- Ensure adherence to established stylistic guidelines/standards.
- Manage the translation of all published reports by maintaining a tracking system, submitting and monitoring translation requests, and comparing source texts and translations for accuracy.
- Recommend, in cooperation with Translation Services, appropriate standardized English and French terminology and ensure consistency and adherence to standards.
- Advise staff on linguistic matters in both official languages.
- Establish and develop effective relationships with other government departments, agencies and industry to keep abreast of changes in policies and practices in government and new methodologies.

**Education**:
Undergraduate degree and four (4) years of experience.

**NOTE**: Any higher level of education (i.e., Masters, Doctorate) in a related field of study (e.g., Journalism, Translation, Communications, English, or French) could be recognized as experience.

The educational program must be from an accredited learning institution recognized in Canada. If you completed a program outside of Canada you will be required to obtain proof of a Canadian equivalency at your expense through a recognized credential assessment service.

**Experience**:
Advanced knowledge and experience in editing and revising correspondence, reports, briefing materials, and other official documents.
- Experience in reviewing and editing a variety of products under tight deadlines targeting different audiences.
- Experience in providing advice and guidance on writing standards to colleagues and senior management.
- Experience in managing multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritizing deliverables.

**Assets**
- Experience in editing material for public and internal government audiences, in both official languages.
- Experience in translating short texts (200 to 500 words) from English to French
- Experience with translation software (e.g., Trados)
- Professional certification with Editors Canada.
- A valid security clearance with the Government of Canada

**Conditions of Employment**:
Ability to work overtime on short notice, when required.
