**WHAT’S THE OPPORTUNITY?**

We have an exciting opportunity for a Newcomer Wellbeing System Navigator to join our Newcomer Mental Health team. This is a part time contract that will end March 31, 2025.

The primary objective of the **Newcomer **Wellbeing Program** **is to support immigrants and refugees in experiencing successful settlement and a sense of belonging in the community. The program promotes the wellbeing of refugees through the provision of trauma informed psychoeducational groups, community education sessions, community engagement, mental health resource consultations, and orientation to the mainstream mental health system, all provided through a lens of cultural humility.

**WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING**:

- Orient individuals and family members to mental health systems in a Canadian context.
- Facilitate families/individuals’ engagement in service through a trauma informed lens and using skills such as active listening, empathic support, honest and transparent communication, motivational interviewing, collaborative goal setting and a flexible approach.
- Through a biopsychosocial assessment, identify and assess the strengths, needs, goals, and risks of the individual/family.
- Connect with ethno-cultural communities within Waterloo Region to bridge the gap between traditional services and grassroots organizations.
- Coordinate specialist assessments as required. These specialist assessments may include psychiatry, psychology, social work, addictions, disability supports etc.
- Work in partnership with other refugee serving organizations to best support individuals by facilitating case conferences and other meetings, promoting collaborative problem solving and by advocating on the families/individuals’ behalf.
- Provide consultation services to other refugee serving staff or agencies about how to best support the mental health and wellbeing of refugees.
- Create and deliver workshops for newcomers to support their wellbeing and sense of belonging.
- Collaborate internally and externally to build and facilitate workshops for those supporting newcomers, to increase community capacity.
- Maintain knowledge of current best practices in supporting the mental health and wellbeing of immigrants and refugees, ensuring that the project activities remain responsive to the needs of clients and community partners.
- Knowledge and experience with issues of systemic racism, religious discrimination and inequality facing Newcomers and LGBTQ+ youth and their parents and caregivers and its effects on mental health.
- Complete all required documentation and participant records according to program and organization expectations.
- Meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities, including the completion of individualized reports, & attending appointments with clients
- Maintain monthly statistics and expenses
- As part of the team, ensure that service targets and mandate for Immigration Refugee Citizenship Canada are met
- Work with staff and leadership to develop and promote safe and inclusive spaces and programs for staff and participants
- Identify potential partnership opportunities within the community in order to promote mental health and wellbeing for refugees.
- Maintain a high level of confidentiality for the protection of the participants.
