**JOB RESPONSIBILITIES**

The Residential Counsellor/Case Manager is a unique blended role that allows you to broaden your skills and experience, while supporting clients in varied ways. Approximately half the time you will support clients in our 10-bed live-in treatment program for women, as well as those who call our 24/7 Crisis Line. Residential Counsellors work as part of a collaborative team to support individuals making changes to their substance use during their 5-week stay. You ensure people have a compassionate and safe care experience. When responding to the Crisis Line, you provide supportive listening, coping skills coaching, risk assessments, and safety planning for those who reach out for support.

The other half of this unique role is providing in-reach case management support to clients engaged in our shelter programs. You will work with individuals experiencing homelessness, engaging them based on their stage of readiness, identifying the supports they require, and actively navigating them to substance use, mental health, and housing stabilization supports. You make a difference

In this role you will:

- Develop relationship and rapport through person-centred interaction
- Conduct assessments and collaborate with clients to develop a support and/or safety plan
- Provide individual and/or group life skills supports to clients to teach skills such as problem-solving, relapse prevention, communication, and coping strategies
- Utilize harm reduction, motivational interviewing, and brief-solution focused approaches
- Distribute safer substance use and naloxone kits (including coaching on how to use)
- Confidently redirect client behaviour, when necessary, to ensure a physically and emotionally safe space for all
- Develop transition plans with clients and facilitate warm connections to ongoing addiction, mental health, housing, and other health and social services
- Support safe administration of medications, as needed, to clients in care and document appropriately
- Document client care issues in our client data system and communicate issues effectively within the team
- Be responsive and compassionate to clients within the program, and those who access the crisis line
- Answer and document all crisis line calls appropriately
- Collaborate with internal and external partners to ensure a coordinated approach to meeting client needs
