**Background**

ACSA is a nonprofit, multi service agency addressing needs and empowering children, youth, newcomers, homeless, and otherwise underserved communities. Our core programs include housing and outreach programs, food security programs, newcomer services, youth outreach and therapy programs, child and family programs, early years’ programs, computer access programs, and community engagement.

**Summary of Job Functions**

**Duties include**:

- Plan, supervise, and implement cooking/nutrition activities targeted towards the Chester Le, Dorset, Glendower, and Bay Mills communities
- Conduct and support regular garden maintenance and gardening/indoor growing workshops
- Support ACSA’s Backyard Gardening program; including the online communication with program participants
- Collaborate with ACSA’s Community Food Centre to create and maintain new initiatives that support the centre’s goals of addressing food security
- Support ACSA’s Cooking to Connect program located at our Dorset Community Hub
- Assist with the maintenance, including replanting and upkeep, of ACSA’s Chester Le Community Pollinator gardens
- Engage seniors, adults, and youth in Food Security program activities by building relationships and communicating professionally and efficiently
- Provide relevant food access resources and materials including information about other community food-based initiatives and supports applicable towards resident interests
- Update and add to ACSA’s Food Asset Map with relevant and updated food access resources
- Encourage leadership and involvement of residents in ACSA’s Food Security programming through capacity building
- Perform community outreach and engagement as needed
- Complete administrative duties as directed including data implementation, creating content for social media accounts and website
- Record and develop media to be used for online workshops and social media
- Maintain regular communication with other CLCC teams, including Youth Workers and Youth Violence Prevention team, assisting in engagement pieces when necessary
- Participate in relevant working groups, committees and task forces addressing community food interests
- Perform other duties as directed

**Qualifications**:

- Youth between the ages of 15 and 30 years old
- Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, convention refugee or protected person AND legally entitled to work in Canada
- Knowledge of Scarborough community food resources, issues of relevance to newcomers, and low-income families and familiarity with diverse cultures an asset
- Passionate about sustainability, food issues, and reducing food insecurity
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively alone and in a team environment
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Gardening experience (professional, volunteer, or hobby-related) is an asset
- Cooking skills (professional, volunteer, or hobby-related) are an asset
- Experience working with senior, adult, or youth populations would be an asset
- Knowledge and familiarity with Chester Le, Glendower, and Bay Mills communities an asset
- A valid driver’s licence and access to vehicle is an asset
- Access to a computer and internet when working remotely is an asset
- Second language an asset (preferably Arabic, Mandarin)
- Available to work occasional evenings and weekends
- Current police reference check is mandatory
