Reporting to the Director of Training Services, we are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Peer Support Worker to join our team in providing essential care and support services to our clients in downtown Toronto. The Peer Support Worker provides compassionate, trauma-informed support to women experiencing homelessness, leveraging personal lived experience to foster connection, empowerment, and holistic recovery.
**Key Responsibilities**
**Direct Client Support**
- Provide one-on-one peer support and mentorship
- Facilitate individual and group support sessions
- Offer emotional support and active listening
- Share personal recovery strategies and coping mechanisms
- Support clients to achieving personal goals
- Assist clients in navigating social services and community resources
- Maintain confidential and respectful client interactions
- Work collaboratively with caseworkers to support client needs and goals
**Peer-Led Programming**
- Design and facilitate peer-led wellness workshops
- Develop recovery-oriented group activities
- Create safe, inclusive support circles
- Coordinate peer mentorship programs
- Support clients in building social connections and community integration
**Advocacy and Outreach**
- Represent client perspectives in program development
- Connect clients with appropriate support services
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members
- Participate in community outreach initiatives
- Reduce barriers to service access for marginalized women
**Documentation and Administrative Support**
- Maintain accurate client support records
- Participate in team meetings and case conferences
- Contribute to program evaluation and improvement
- Complete required reporting and documentation
- Support data collection and program metrics
**Essential Qualifications**
- Lived experience with homelessness, mental health challenges, or addiction recovery
- Strong empathy and active listening skills
- Understanding of trauma-informed care principles

**Qualifications and requirements**
**Experience**
- Minimum of 2 years’ relevant experience preferably in communal living settings.
- Experience working with marginalized women facing concurrent disorders
**Required Skills**:
- Awareness of and sensitivity to the philosophies of supports and services with people who have mental health challenges.
- Effective conflict resolution, crisis intervention and de-escalation skills.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Commitment to excellence in support and services.
- Life Skills Certification an Asset.
- Valid First Aid and CPR Certificate.
- Valid Food Handler’s Certificate.
- You will be required to complete a Vulnerable Sector check
