We are looking for a Technical Officer to support the Frequency and Time group within the Metrology Research Centre. The Technical Officer would be someone who shares our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity.

The Technical Officer provides technical (electrical, electronic, computer, mechanical, organizational, logístical and other) support, and systems oversight in the day-to-day operations of the F&T group to ensure uninterrupted provision of time dissemination services, highest quality of calibration capabilities and extensive research work in the discipline.

**KEY ACTIVITIES**
- Monitors the performance of all power supply, electronic and computer systems in the F&T labs and initiates and executes system repairs and upgrades. Completes general lab electronic and mechanical equipment assembly and installation;
- Performs calibrations and prepares reports for internal and external customers.

**Screening Criteria**:
**Education**:
A University or College degree in electrical engineering or a College diploma in electrical engineering (technologist) or an equivalent combination of experience and education.

**Experience**:

- Experience in laboratory work including testing and troubleshooting equipment and systems; systems oversight and maintenance;
- Significant experience in digital and analog electronics including design, layout, board generation, part specification, construction, testing and troubleshooting;
- Experience in general programming, computer interfacing;
- Experience with radio frequency electronics, FPGA and micro-controller programming would be considered an asset;
- Experience with power supply systems, both AC/DC and DC/DC supplies and battery backup systems;
- Experience with small power tools and workshop equipment; and
- Experience working in diverse qualifications team environment.

**Assessment Criteria**:
**Technical Competencies**:

- Solid knowledge of digital and analog electronics and circuit design;
- Solid knowledge of electronic test and measurement equipment and circuit board assembly;
- Knowledge of microcontroller and FPGA programming;
- Working knowledge of programming languages on Windows and/or Linux platforms; and
- Working knowledge of emergency generator systems and electrical systems.

**Relocation**:
Relocation assistance will be determined in accordance with the NRC's directives.

**Compensation**:
From $58,445 to $80,040 per annum.

**Notes**:

- A pre-qualified list may be established for similar positions for a one year period.
- Lifting may be required.

- While the position is based at the Montreal Road Campus, some work at the Uplands facility may be required from time to time.
- A flexible schedule and overtime may be required.
- Willingness to occasionally work on high ladders and/or scaffolding.
- Willingness to occasionally work on weekend and/or on statutory holiday.
