Division Head: K-5

Job Overview:
The Division Head: K-5 is responsible for the daily operation which includes overseeing the curriculum implementation, maintaining academic and behavioural standards, and ensuring fair and consistent policies adherence.
Working collaboratively with the leadership team and reporting directly to the Principal, the Division Head: K-5 works with students, faculty, and parents to ensure that the division is thriving and all needs are being met. As such, the Division Head: K-5 is positive, pro-active and deals with issues directly and sensitively. As someone who is invested in understanding and researching the latest pedagogy, the Head is always seeking to improve student performance, to explore initiatives which will enhance the quality of experience for all students in the division and ensure that faculty have the support and guidance they need to do their best work. The Division Head: K-5 is committed to growth, open to innovative ideas, and believes every student can succeed. The Division Head: K-5 will work collaboratively with the Principal and Head of School in all grade level aspects.
Essential duties and responsibilities will include:
Note: *Collaboration with the Elementary Principal
Academics:
*Review all program materials (i.e., unit and long-range planning, text, and consumable books) and ensure implementation of the curriculum
- *Monitor student progress and wellness in an ongoing fashion and through monthly Marks collections
- *Facilitate report card process (review and edit reports, distribution) schedule, monitor interviews and create parent/teacher interview schedules
- *Oversee, monitor and attend parent/teacher interviews
- *Oversee all standardized testing, including CAT testing
- *Oversee and plan the Professional Development Days (i.e., August work week, January)
- Attend Teaching and Learning Team bi-weekly Meetings
- *Oversee the creation of the yearly academic timetable
- *Organize Circle of Care Meetings in consultation with the Learning Strategist
- Plan for consistent classroom visits and observations
Student Life and Experience:
- *Plan and oversee all special events (Musicals, Plays, Reading Week, Science Fair, assemblies, etc.), ensure each event is “owned” by a faculty member
- Establish and oversee K-5 clubs
- *Review, approve and oversee all outgoing field trips and ensure proper paperwork is submitted

- *Manage student behaviours
- Monitor student involvement in student life
- *Support teachers to foster community
- Work collaboratively with the Athletic Director to provide intramural activities at all grade levels
- *Monitor and oversee chronic attendance issues with students
Staffing:
- *Conduct regular divisional meetings and set agendas in collaboration with the Principal and Head of School
- Create the duty schedule
- Assist with teachers’ coverage for sick, personal days, occasionally short-term leave, and all other related school events except for athletics
- *Assist with the interview process for hiring new teachers in collaboration with the Principal and Head of School
- *Conduct formal teacher evaluations
- *Mentor new teachers and ensure a clear onboarding plan for them
- Respond to teachers’ requests, suggestions, and ideas
- *Oversee classroom management and ensure innovative learning environments
Supervision:
- *Monitor hallways, transitions, and uniform
- Be active and visible in the school - outdoors, hallways, etc., to ensure positive student conduct and build relationships and community with students, parents, staff, and faculty.
- *Ensure the Afterschool room is running smoothly in collaboration with the Division Head: 6-8
Administrative Duties:
- Attend bi-weekly Leadership meetings
- *Prepare and distribute important parent communication (i.e., summer parent package, first-day information and forms, Edsby posts, etc.)
- Monitor attendance records of K-5 students and assist the front office staff with daily attendance when needed
- Assist with Admissions ((i.e., tours 2 X week)
- Attend Our Kids Fairs
- Monitor Edsby’s use by teachers, students, and parents
- Ensure Edsby is up to date
- Assist with Open House(s) preparations
- Oversee Closing Ceremonies
- Coordinate Picture Day and SK Graduation Photo Day
- Maintain K-5 inventory of furniture and supplies
- Prepare year-end curriculum supply lists and furniture needs
- *Manage parent concerns, ideas, and suggestions
- Calendar additions or changes must be sent to the office administrator in charge of the calendar - ensure all dates are on the main calendar Parent and Community Engagement
- Engage teachers in weekly “sunshine” calls to parents
