If so, consider this unique role within the Nuclear, Radiological and Scientific Response Program Branch as a Nuclear/Emergency Planning and Exercise Officer with Emergency Management Ontario (EMO) where you will develop and maintain the province's nuclear emergency management program.

**The Nuclear, Radiological and Scientific Response Program Branch** develops and maintains the provincial nuclear emergency management program. It coordinates provincial scientific activities, emergency plans, programs, exercises, procedures, and policies to support Ontario's off-site responsibilities in the preparedness for, response to, and recovery from a nuclear or radiological incident. The branch also provides advice and assistance to a broad range of public sector partners (provincial, federal, municipal, and Indigenous) and private sector stakeholders (nuclear/radiological industry) particularly with respect to their nuclear accountabilities under the Provincial Nuclear Emergency Response and its associated Implementing Plans.

**What can I expect to do in this role?**: You will:

- Write and maintain the Provincial Nuclear Emergency Response Plan and a variety of other emergency plans and related procedures
- Assist with the submission of plans/procedures for government approval, including the development of issue and briefing notes, presentations/briefings, and cabinet submissions
- Support and develop the provincial nuclear exercise program by conducting needs assessments/environmental scans to identify program priorities, developing multi-year nuclear exercise schedules in coordination with stakeholders, and monitoring program implementation
- Lead internal and external working groups
- Identify, develop and support partnership opportunities with a wide variety of diverse stakeholders
- Conduct research/analysis and then prepare reports and recommendations
- Contribute to related legislation, regulations, doctrine, policies, guidelines, exercises, and other implementation products in consultation with stakeholders
- Serve as a staff officer in the Provincial Emergency Operations Centre (PEOC) as required
- Deliver training and/or presentations

**How do I qualify?**:
**Specialized Knowledge and Experience**:

- You have knowledge of exercise design theory and practices to plan, manage/coordinate and conduct large scale exercise development and planning projects.
- You know various theories/practices in social sciences disciplines (i.e. human and physical geography, urban planning, resources management, sociology, psychology, etc.) as they relate to emergency planning and nuclear planning practices and policy.
- You understand the roles and responsibilities of various levels of government (municipal, provincial and federal) as well as external organizations such as emergency services, non-governmental organizations and private industry.

**Analytical, Evaluation, and Research Skills**:

- You have demonstrated evaluation and analytical skills to conduct environmental scans, analyze emergency management issues, trends, and assess relevance and implications of issues and recommend an appropriate course of action to senior management.
- You can understand and interpret legislation, policy, regulations, and directives.
- You have research, reasoning and problem solving skills in order to contribute to program development, identify the need for new or revised policies, review various options, assess feasibility, viability and potential impacts, and recommending changes.

**Communication, Relationship-Building, and Customer Services Skills**:

- You have advanced oral and written communication and presentation skills in order to conduct consultations and engage stakeholders at all levels including senior officials
- You can effectively communicate, present, and provide advice on research findings and recommendations to staff, management, other ministry officials and professional organizations via research reports, presentations and correspondence and deliver a variety of training products
- You have excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills
