As a Team Lead - Legal Affairs and Compliance, you will use your expertise to influence the risk culture and maintain the team's skills at the highest expected standard by offering solutions to the insurance industry to continuously improve our practices related to the protection of our clients.
The mandate of the team is varied. Among other things, it aims to supervise and promote a healthy risk culture within the National Bank Insurance sector and act as experts, particularly in regulatory and legal matters.
Your job
- Act as an expert within the sector to guide and advise internal and external stakeholders and management in decisions that require expertise in the area of compliance and legal affairs;
- Act as a legal expert for all litigation files in the sector and requiring a formal legal opinion;
- In collaboration with the manager, ensure the planning, day-to-day management and control of legal and regulatory activities within the sector;
- Ensure the maintenance and implementation of best practices as well as the updating of the various components of the legal and regulatory framework within the sector, including the compliance manual;
- Coach and supervise the resources dedicated (internal or external to the team) to the activities, to a project of a legal and regulatory nature in order to actively contribute to their development.
- Act as the industry's primary representative to regulatory authorities and various insurance industry committees, including CLHIA and CAFII;
- Oversee the preparation of reports, questionnaires, declarations to be submitted to regulatory authorities and industry management, including annual compliance statements;
- Work to develop, monitor and implement various action plans resulting from recommendations issued by internal and external stakeholders (internal audit, corporate compliance, regulatory authorities, and others);
You will be part of a team of 5 experts in regulatory and risk management and report to the Chief Compliance and Risk Officer.
**Competencies required**:
- Bachelor's degree related to the business line and seven years of relevant experience or Master's degree related to the business line and five years of relevant experience
- Member in good standing of the Barreau du Québec;
- Advanced level of understanding of the legal and regulatory framework in the field of insurance;
- In-depth knowledge of insurance products and activities;
- Analytical ability with a strong solution orientation;
- Good communication skills and demonstrate diplomacy and tact;
- Strong negotiation skills,
- Sense of organization and management of priorities
- Bilingualism French and English spoken and written essential
**Preferred competencies**:
- Experience in managing or coaching professional resources (an asset)
