AquaStar Therapies Inc has been providing one to one Recreation and Aquatic Therapy services to children with special and diverse needs since 2016. The services offered to clients focus’ on each individuals day to day goals and the activities are meant to be fun and therapeutic in nature. Activity examples can range greatly from crafts with a coordination or fine motor focus, walks or playing at a park for social-communication focuses to swimming which can focus on many benefits such as physical, social and emotional regulation focuses. Therapy activities will take place mostly at community pools and other community places (eg parks), some therapy sessions may take place in client homes.

A large portion of therapy sessions are currently being held in the pool as there are so many great benefits from the activity of swimming.

Therapy Assistants will work one to one with children with special/diverse needs following a specific program plan designed by a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist or other AquaStar Therapist.

Each clients sessions will consist of a variety of activities specific to each client to help build and develop skills of social, communication, physical, leisure education, water safety and other day to day life activity goals.

Depending on skill levels and certifications, Assistants will have the opportunities to work independently with clients in the community without direct supervision and other opportunities to work in a group program working one to one with clients along side others and Supervising Therapist.

As children continue to learn and grow, AquaStar Therapy Assistants need to be observant and creative to be able to quickly adapt, support and motivate clients during their therapies and activities.

**Job Duties**:

- Leading/guiding Therapy sessions to children
- Effective listening and communication skills
- Verbal and written communication will be needed to report on Therapy sessions to Supervising Therapist.
- Adaptability/Flexibility: changing and adapting skills/activities during session to assist meeting needs of clients; ability to motivate clients
- Ability to work independently, without direct supervision

**Qualifications**:

- Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent
- Current First Aid and CPR Certification
- Current or previous certifications in Water Safety Instructor, National Lifeguard, Aquatic Fitness Leader, Swim Coach
- PREFERRED certifications, training or experience in recreation related services for children.
- A clean driving and criminal record
- Recent related experience with children (0-18 years old) with cognitive and physical disabilities
- Able to work effectively in a physically and mentally demanding environment
- Demonstrate ability to understand, speak, read and write effectively in english
- Excellent observation, communication and problem solving skills

**Job Type**: Part-time
Part-time hours: 2-10 per week

**Salary**: $28.00-$34.00 per hour

Schedule:

- Evening shift
- Monday to Friday
- On call
- Weekends as needed
