The Oil Sands Monitoring (OSM) Branch is dedicated to protecting Alberta’s environment by undertaking monitoring, evaluation, and reporting on the environmental impacts from oil sands development activities in the oil sands region of Alberta.

Collaborating with governments, industry, academia, and Indigenous communities, the OSM Branch delivers comprehensive assessments of monitoring data to inform decision makers, management, policy and regulatory action.

The Oil Sands Monitoring Branch is seeking a motivated Junior Hydrogeologist to join our dynamic team and contribute to Alberta's commitment to responsible environmental stewardship.

As a Junior Hydrogeologist, you will play a pivotal role in monitoring and managing Alberta’s water resources. Working alongside a team of dedicated professionals, you will leverage advanced scientific methods to assess and safeguard our province’s precious natural resources.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Contribute to the design of groundwater monitoring programs, protocols, and conceptual models.
- Collaborate with Indigenous communities to support efforts aimed at addressing groundwater-related concerns and questions.
- Develop monitoring plans, budgets, innovative studies, and novel methods for assessing groundwater conditions in the oil sands region.
- Work with relevant staff to ensure the safe, efficient, and effective delivery of groundwater monitoring programs, including conducting field investigations, supervising well installations, validating data, performing data analysis, and preparing reports.
- Ensure scientific rigor by independently evaluating groundwater data, preparing technical and program reports, publishing in peer-reviewed journals, and presenting findings to OSM partners and stakeholders.
- Support the development and implementation of hydrogeological research programs.

***Education**:
A master’s degree in hydrogeology, contaminant hydrogeology, physical hydrogeology, geology, geostatistics, environmental (bio)geochemistry, environmental engineering, water resources, or a related field.

**Experience**:
**Equivalency**:

- PhD in a scientific discipline related to the position; no experience required.
- University graduation in a related field, plus 4 years of related experience.

**Assets**:

- A PhD with post-doctoral experience is considered an asset, demonstrating advanced knowledge and research expertise in groundwater science.
