**The Calgary Operational Site (COS)**
The Bank of Canada has a site for Bank operations in downtown Calgary. The Calgary Operational Site (COS) includes 125 employees across the Financial Markets Department, Banking and Payments Department, Financial and Enterprise Risk, and Information Technology Services that share responsibility with the head office in Ottawa.

Calgary teams work closely with head office counterparts to undertake domestic and foreign market transactions, management of Government cash balances and the Bank’s balance sheet, financial market analysis, and policy advice relevant to the Bank’s monetary policy, financial system and funds management functions.

Having two groups in separate geographic locations that work together every day contributes to seamless delivery and continuity of our key financial market operations. To ensure operational resiliency, you are expected to help support domestic operations when needed.

**What you will do**

The EFA is the largest component of Canada’s official international reserves. It consists primarily of liquid foreign currency assets (fixed income securities and deposits) which are funded by Government of Canada foreign currency liabilities. The Foreign Reserves Management (FRM) team leads trading and management of the EFA assets and foreign currency liabilities in accordance with formal investment guidelines established by the Department of Finance and the Bank of Canada.

The FRM team is seeking a Trader Associate to support the team in executing on the Annual Funding and Investment Plan through transacting in money market assets, bonds, and cross-currency interest rate swaps. As a Trader Associate, you will provide analytic, technical and operational support:

- Create and interpret trading and portfolio reports
- Analyze operations and financial market data, often using scripts
- Develop, enhance and maintain trading tools-based data visualisation platforms (e.g. Tableau)
- Test systems, detail procedures and find opportunities for improvement
- Help run market operations and reporting on market activity
- Contribute to maintaining operational risk within best standards
- Coordinate with middle and back offices in the validation and monitoring of trade settlements
- Manage and coordinate ad-hoc requests from trading/portfolio managers and policy/data teams**What you need to succeed**
You are detail-oriented and experienced in manipulating substantial amounts of data. You can adapt, autonomously design or develop programs or scripts to aid in your analysis. You are a self-starter, problem-solver and have strong time-management skills that allows you to effectively prioritize multiple asks. You are a team player that enjoys sharing ideas and collaborating with others. You are an effective communicator, able to promote your analysis and ideas orally and in written form to a wider audience. You are able to think on your feet and solve problems quickly under pressure.

**Must-have**
- experience manipulating data in Python, MATLAB, VBA, or other similar programming languages
- general knowledge of the relational database model or experience using SQL
- general data visualization experience (e.g. Tableau, PowerBI, Qlik)

**Nice-to-have**
- experience with a Bloomberg Terminal and/or any other market/trading related data platforms
- knowledge of financial market issues and developments, as well as knowledge of economic and financial theory and quantitative methods
- currently or planning to be enrolled in the CFA program

**Your education and experience**
The position requires a bachelor’s degree in finance or economics, 2 years of relevant experience in a financial firm or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
