**NOTE**: NAIT is currently hiring 2 full time Level 1 Community Peace Officers

Reporting to a Peace Officer Sergeant, NAIT Community Peace Officers (CPO) are responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for staff, students, visitors, and Institute property. NAIT CPOs follow the Community Policing Model by means of building and supporting partnerships through crime prevention education and innovative problem-solving initiatives. On a 24/7 basis, the CPOs address the safety and security needs of the NAIT community by providing general information services, effective physical security, personal safety services, investigational support, and property management support. The CPOs play an important liaison role in campus emergency incident response whilst working with emergency services personnel from partner agencies. As appointed "Community Peace Officers", NAIT's CPOs have the discretionary authority to enforce certain regulations, bylaws and statutes found within both municipal and provincial legislation. In addition to providing a high level of customer service that follows accountability standards and best practices, all members of NAIT Protective Services take pride in representing a value system based on honesty, integrity, professionalism, and mutual respect.

This competition is only open to all applicants; however, those who are eligible for appointment as a Level 1 - Community Peace Officer or who have equivalent experience and training making them eligible to obtain the appointment, will be given strong consideration. Section 6.4 of the Peace Officer Manual (V3) outlines CPO Level 1 Training Equivalents, including but not limited to Canadian police service training, AB Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officer training, AB Sheriff training, AB Fish and Wildlife or Conservation Officer training.

**Key Accountabilities**:
Work to enhance and build the community relationships that NAIT Protective Services needs to effectively support our community (both on and off campus).
Maintain and provide a safe learning environment for our students, and a safe work environment for our staff, and to create a safe environment for NAIT's patrons, guests, and stakeholders while they are on campus
Create an atmosphere conducive with learning and allow for NAIT's service delivery to happen in a seamless manner irrespective of NPS' operations
Conduct Municipal and Provincial Enforcement as required to ensure the orderly operation of NAIT's campuses and workspaces
Act as a liaison with Emergency Services and NAIT Emergency Management team when applicable
Investigate reports of criminal, suspicious, or otherwise out of the ordinary incidents that occur on / or in relationship to the campus property

**Skills & Abilities**:
Experience working in a post-secondary environment or other diverse customer service focused organization
Law enforcement or related security experience
Experience is using Resolver incident management solutions or equivalent incident reporting database
Law Enforcement Bike Association (LEBA) Training Certification
Verbal Judo or Tactical Communications Certification
Defensive Driving Training
WHMIS Training
Valid PPCT, Baton, and OC training

**Qualifications**:
Completion of the Community Peace Officer Induction Program (CPOIP), or equivalent experience and training making you eligible to obtain a CPO Level 1 appointment. Section 6.4 of the Peace Officer Manual (V3) outlines CPO Level 1 Training Equivalents.
Completion of a recognized post-secondary education program in law enforcement, criminal justice, or a related field or equivalent prior experience in a Peace Officer position (or equivalent) in lieu of education
Possession of a Class 5 Alberta Driver's License (or provincial equivalent). Maintaining a driver's license is a requirement for this position. Applicants will be required to provide a drivers abstract suitable to NAIT Protective Services. A Class 5 GDL license will not be accepted.
Possession of valid Standard First Aid and Basic CPR Level C certificates and AED qualified.
Be physically fit and able to pass the Physical Abilities Requirement Evaluation (P.A.R.E.) with a minimum passing score at or under four minutes and forty-five seconds (4:45). (Evaluation testing will be undertaken at the assessment stage paid for by the applicant)
Employment is dependent upon an enhanced Police Information Check, including a Vulnerable Sector check, that are satisfactory to NAIT Protective Services and the Alberta Solicitor General.

Uniforms, equipment, and training will be provided by the employer at no cost to the employee.

**Remuneration**: $61,451.26 - $79,574.82 annually, plus a comprehensive benefits package. (Classification - Peace Officer Level l).
