**About Us**:
Facilities Management (FM) is responsible for the planning, development, construction, operation, maintenance and stewardship of all the buildings, infrastructure, sites and services within Western's campus community.
**Responsibilities**:
- The Lead Plumber-Fitter will provide leadership and perform skilled work associated with your trade in a unit that supports work associated with:
- Drainage and sanitary sewage systems, domestic water, gas distribution systems, water purification systems, vacuum systems and other related systems
- Installations, maintenance, repairs, inspections and troubleshooting of steam distribution systems, hydronic heating/cooling systems, high pressure air systems and a variety of commercial and research/laboratory equipment
- Provide leadership in the unit and perform the skilled work of your job classification at a level indicative of practical, theoretical and technical excellence
- Maintain regular communication with the Unit Leader and advise of key operational activities
- Identify unit priorities, and assign and oversee duties of team members
- Support onboarding, training and coaching activities
- Assist with scheduling preventative maintenance and organizing project activities in the Unit
- Monitor team attendance and work activities and enter hours for Leader review and posting
- Regulate the use of equipment and supplies, facilitate equipment repairs and support maintenance of inventory levels to meet operational need
**Qualifications**:
- Education:
- Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent
- Completion of Ontario College program (or equivalent) as recognized by Skilled Trades Ontario - Plumber (306A) Program (or Provincial/Territorial equivalent with Red Seal Endorsement (RSE)).
- OR
- Completion of Ontario College program (or equivalent) as recognized by Skilled Trades Ontario - Steamfitter (307A) Program (or Provincial/Territorial equivalent with Red Seal Endorsement (RSE)- Professional Qualifications and Licenses:
- Certified and Registered as a Plumber (306A) as recognized by Skilled Trades Ontario (or Provincial/Territorial equivalent with Red Seal Endorsement (RSE))
- Certified and Registered Ontario Water Works Association (OWWA) Certified Cross Connection Control Specialist
- Complete and maintain the Industrial Maintenance Technician (IMT) Gas Certificate as recognized by the Technical Standards and Safety Act (TSSA) as developed for Western University
- Maintain a valid Ontario Drivers’ License.
- Maintain a valid First Aid Certificate including CPR
OR
- Certified and Registered as Steamfitter (307A) by Skilled Trades Ontario (or Provincial/Territorial equivalent with Red Seal Endorsement (RSE))
- Complete and maintain the Industrial Maintenance Technician (IMT) Gas Certificate as recognized by the Technical Standards and Safety Act (TSSA) as developed for Western University
- Maintain a valid Ontario Drivers’ License.
- Maintain a valid First Aid Certificate including CPR
- Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of construction and/or maintenance experience working as a Plumber or Steamfitter in a large commercial, industrial or institutional setting
- Prior experience leading a team is preferred
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Comprehensive knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to the steamfitting trade
- In-depth understanding of tools, equipment, principles, materials, and terminology associated with the steamfitting trade
- Basic understanding of other positions within Facilities Management with which you interact
- Comprehensive knowledge in the current versions of all applicable legislation, regulations, codes and standards
- Ability to investigate, identify, analyze and document information in written or electronic form and resolve problems
- Ability to meet physical demands of the role including to lift and transport materials, bend, excavate, climb and reach repetitively
- Solid interpersonal skills to work well in a team environment as well as autonomously with mínimal supervision
- Ability to work in confined spaces or in areas containing designated substances found within OH&S Act as required
- Ability to interpret and work from electronic/written operation instruction sheets as well as mechanical electrical and geographical drawings/maps and produce quick-sketch working diagrams
