- **Position Title: Community Law & Safety Enforcement Officer **_
- **Position Location: Chilliwack, BC **_
- **Salary Range: $29.51-32.25 dependent on education and experience**_
- **Work Term: Full Time Position**_
- **Summary**:_ The Community Law Enforcement Officer is responsible for administering SAY laws for all community members and citizens. In addition, this position will also play a role in promotion a positive work environment and a culture of safe work practices across the organization. Playing a key part in planning, implementing, and overseeing the safety program and parts of emergency preparedness _**. **_ Overall, role works with the SAY communities to educate and build understanding and awareness. Operating with the utmost respect for the culture, traditions, and values of the communities it serves, builds relationships through empathy, patience, understanding, and diplomacy.
- **Responsibilities and Duties**:_
- **Enforcement**_
- Conduct inspections and respond to complaints.
- Encourage people to comply with laws by communicating with them.
- Conduct educational workshops and awareness campaigns on safety, laws, enforcement etc.
- Educate and explain laws to build understanding and awareness.
- Issue and administer orders to inform and correct problems.
- Follow up on orders to ensure compliance and determine next steps.
- Keep records and write reports on occurrences.
- Investigate complaints or offences. Keep detailed records for all complaints and inspections.
- Partner with enforcement agencies, including peace officers and police officers, to assist with compliance as required.
- Engage with members and citizens to build relationships and strengthen the communities.
- **Community Watch & Block Initiatives**_
- Collaborate with community members to establish and maintain a community watch program.
- Organize and coordinate block watch efforts to enhance security and reduce crime within the community.
- Foster a sense of unity and responsibility among community members to actively participate in neighborhood safety efforts.
- Maintain accurate records of community watch/block activities, incidents, and resolutions.
- Provide regular reports to management regarding safety and enforcement.
- **Health and Safety**_
- Leads and supports the organization with Health and Safety concerns as the Health and Safety Representative
- Prepare agendas and record minutes for the OHS meetings.
- Monitors work site inspections to identify trends and provide appropriate recommendations to Director to correct unsafe or hazardous conditions.
- Participates in the development of safe work policies and procedures.
- Coordinates and completes all hazard assessments.
- Participates/leads all accident investigations and building/ equipment inspections are completed as required.
- Coordinates and supports OHS training for workers/ managers.
- Provide non-emergency first aid and assistance to those in need (includes Naloxone)
- **Emergency Management**_
- Work with Community to Community (C2C) working group to gather input, create alignment, and increase community coordination and engagement to develop a Regional Emergency Preparedness Plan for participating communities.
- Schedule regular meetings, record minutes, review changing risks, ensure the plan is up to date,
- Ensures an inventory of equipment is maintained and coordinated for a potential emergency.
- From community engagement and input, develop, implement, and maintain a regional support emergency preparedness and recovery plan.
- Monitor threats to health in the participating First Nations communities (i.e., Flooding) and ensure emergency partner agencies are aligned with a coordinated response.
- In collaboration with participating community leadership, create a comprehensive emergency communication plan to ensure preparation for emergencies or impending threats.
- Liaise with external emergency response organizations, government resources, and agencies.
- Develop, organize and present training events for emergency management and Emergency Operations Centre (EOC)
- Other duties as required or assigned.
**Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities**
- Ability to work well within a First Nations environment while demonstrating flexibility, empathy, sensitivity, patience, diplomacy, and confidentiality.
- Intimate knowledge and respect of Indigenous social structure, traditions, values, and culture
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and active listening skills
- Basic to Intermediate proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
- The capability to foster and maintain strong relationships both internally and externally and communicate with a variety of people of varying skill levels.
- Able to work independently with mínimal day-to-day supervision.
