Position Summary:
Under the direction of the immediate supervisor, participates in the execution of laboratory projects and experiments. Performs a variety of specialized technical tasks according to established methodology. Prepares materials and equipment. Compiles data. Demonstrates techniques. Maintains equipment.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Participates in the execution of laboratory projects and experiments. Performs a variety of specialized technical tasks according to established methodology in histology, immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence.- Prepares and sets up materials and equipment. Performs a variety of tests such as histological, immunohistochemical and immunofluorescence procedures.- Records results, performs quantitation of staining results and calculations and compiles data. Maintains records and files.- Ensures the cleanliness and safety of the work area.- Keeps abreast of new developments in the field to update skills and knowledge- Uses a variety of equipment such as balances, pH meters, pipettors, laminar flow hoods, incubators, autoclaves, microscopes,centrifuges, cryostats, microtomes, computers and audio-visual equipment.

Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities:
Bachelor of Science an asset, demonstrated organizational skills and ability to multi-task are essential, background and training in histology, immunohistochemistry and imaging is required, proven flexibility in order to adapt to frequent changes and demands, strong demonstrated problem-solving skills and interpersonal skills, excellent demonstrated computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Sigma-Plot, Prism and GraphPad) is an asset, bilingual (French and English). Knowledge of French and English: McGill University is an English-language university where day to day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing. The level of English required for this position has been assessed at a level # 4 on a scale of 0-4.
