NATURE OF THE WORK
- The principal and customary work of the employee in this employment class consists in assisting the teaching personnel in the preparation, presentation, supervision and evaluation of laboratory work, fieldwork and workshops.
- Specifically, the Laboratory Technician will support both Commercial Photography (AEC) and Professional Photography (DEC) programs in the preparation, distribution, overseeing and maintenance of the equipment and facilities used by teachers and students in the running of the department. The technician will work in collaboration with the other technicians in the department.
- RESPONSIBILITIES- Assist faculty and students in the preparation and presentation of digital (and chemical) laboratory and studio photography and video work;
- Advise students, faculty and staff on the proper handling of photographic and computer related equipment
- Maintain scheduling and reservation system for facilities;
- Calibrate and perform preventative maintenance on all equipment in labs and studios, keeping equipment in good working order, diagnosing problems, performing minor repairs or placing service calls when necessary;
- Monitor and maintain quality control of all digital and chemical photographic equipment and processes in the lab;
- Maintain and oversee appropriate inventory of digital photography and video equipment, consumables and chemicals used in studios and labs;
- Ensure disposal and proper use of chemicals and digital printing inks;
- Maintain a database of the purchases of supplies and equipment and of repairs;
- Research and consult with faculty on photographic equipment and supplies for acquisition by the College;
- Support non-credit photography sections, when needed;
- Support department (Chair and coordinators in particular) as required;
- Perform other related tasks requested by the Associate Dean.

**Requirements**:
- QUALIFICATIONS
- To hold a diploma of college studies (DEC) in an appropriate specialty or a diploma or an attestation of studies which is recognized as equivalent by the competent authority.
- CONDITIONS- Thorough knowledge of professional digital photographic processes and equipment is required (flash systems, computer systems and professional printers in particular)
- Knowledge of video production and equipment
- Advanced English oral, and intermediate English written (testing may be required)
- Intermediate French oral, and basic French written (testing may be required
- Basic Microsoft Excel skills
- Intermediate Mac OS knowledge
- Competency in digital imaging workflow procedures
- Excellent interpersonal skills: capable of working collaboratively with others
