Programs and Community Coordinator

This is an excellent opportunity for a non-profit, community driven individual who is committed to compassionate end of life care and grief support. As a member of the Heron Hospice Society of Delta (HHSD) team, the coordinator will work with staff and volunteers to implement and deliver a variety of programs that serve the HHSD mission and vision. The coordinator will engage new community partnerships and assist planning and implementation of HHSD community engagement. The coordinator is responsible for fulfilling the responsibilities listed below in a supportive, warm and collaborative manner.
Position Title**:Programs and Community Coordinator**
**Responsibilities**:
Volunteer Coordination
- Leads the recruitment and screening for all volunteer roles.
- Provides training and orientation to meet competency requirements and provides ongoing professional development opportunities to all volunteers.
- Develops and maintains role descriptions, policies and procedures pertaining to volunteer programs.
- Is responsible for maintaining complete and accurate documentation records in compliance with HHSD and Fraser Health policies.
- Communicates with volunteers to ensure they are kept up to date on policies, HHSD programs, news and events.
- Completes all scheduling for volunteers.
- Plans and executes volunteer recognition strategies.
- Monitors all volunteers’ performance, follows up on any issues or concerns and takes appropriate disciplinary action, collects volunteer feedback.
Program Coordination
- In collaboration with other staff, develops new program proposals to deliver the Society’s mission.
- As assigned, leads planning and implementation of programs.
- Ensures programs are supported with all necessary supplies, materials and lists.
- Produces reports and statistics on programming hours, attendance, etc.
- Provides input on the HHSD website, social media, promotional materials, etc. as needed.
- Is responsible for operating within the approved budget.
Community Engagement and Partnerships
- Works collaboratively with the Irene Thomas Hospice and allied health professionals to ensure volunteer provided services meet established objectives and outcomes
- Actively develops and nurtures community partnerships and relationships.
- Assists in developing and implementing community engagement initiatives.
- Proposes and implements projects that promote HHSD services within the Delta community.
- Interacts with individuals who may approach the Society for support or services.
- Assists with HHSD special events, including community fairs, fundraising events and other special events as directed.
Qualifications:
- Post secondary degree or diploma in a relevant discipline.
- 3+ years experience in either programming, community development, social services or experience in a not-profit organization.
- Experience in hospice or end of life care is considered an asset, not a requirement
- Proficient at planning, administration and organization.
- Demonstrated ability to identify, analyze and resolve service opportunities.
- Ability to work independently or collaboratively as a team member.
- Exceptional communication skills in written and verbal English.
- Strong digital technology skills; experience using database management programs and intermediate experience using Google Workspace.
- High degree of discretion and maturity of confidential information and situations, including the ability to work with children and vulnerable people.
- Ability to effectively manage priorities and work independently in a growing and ambiguous environment.
- Ability to establish and maintain appropriate professional and personal boundaries.
- Demonstrates the following traits in past professional experiences;
- integrity, creativity; balance, good judgment, objectivity; leadership, collaborative, sense of humor, dignity and respect
- A driver’s license and access to a car is an asset.
