Description:
A Consulting Utility Forester is an expert in forestry. You’ll keep communities informed about the trees and power lines, while ensuring safe delivery of their power and pursuing opportunities to develop sustainable habitat throughout the utility right-of-way. In this role, your office is the great outdoors Our Consulting Utility Foresters perform identification, inspection, and evaluation of trees and brush along utility lines; Submit inspection results to clients with recommendations; Discuss and negotiate line-clearance crew access issues; and Serve as a liaison between clients, tree crews, and client customers.
Responsibilities (but not limited to):
- Work with major gas/electric utility system and address its forestry needs.- Inspect utility right-of-ways and identify vegetation incompatible with provincial and federal regulations.- Contact property owners and public agencies regarding pruning and/or removals and assess all terrain, habitat, and environmental conditions.- Coordinate with project managers, planners, and vegetation crews.- Collect, enter and manage all data to ensure proper data integrity.- Follow maps and use GPS navigation.- Conduct tree and brush inventories.-
- Conduct hazard tree inspections and evaluations.-
- Plan work for tree contractors.-
- Safeguard employees and public from hazards in and around the work area by enforcing on-the-job safety practices.-
- Carry and utilize materials, tools, and equipment at work site.-
- Service trucks and equipment, keep trucks and other assigned equipment in a neat and orderly fashion.-
- Uphold CNUC Canada core values and maintain a positive work environment.-
- Must adhere to CNUC Canada’s “Employee/ Contractor Smoking, Alcohol and Drug Policy Minimum Requirements” handbook.-
- Perform other related duties as required or assigned.**Requirements**:
- 2 year degree in forestry, horticulture, environmental science or closely related field.- Has more than 1 year of utility vegetation management experience or similar experience in a related field (tree work industry, landscape professional).- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record and operate a 4x4 vehicle on rough roads.-
- Species identification skills and invasive species knowledge, plus knowledge of tree growth rates.-
- Ability to obtain Arborist/Utility ISA certification along with pesticide applicators license within 12 months upon job offer.- Must be able to work with stakeholders, utility customers and line clearance vendors and have excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills.- Experience in utility vegetation management experience a plus.- Competent computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite.- Experience working with GIS integrated data collection software/hardware preferred but not required.- Must be self-motivated, organized, production-oriented.- Must be comfortable working in an independent environment and managing a geographical area for all vegetation related activities.- Utility experience a plus.- Multi-tasking and strong time management skills required.- Ability to travel and work in varied terrain and inclement weather with flexible schedules (available nights and weekends as needed).- Employees are expected to be fit for work and remain fit for work throughout their workday or shift or when on call.
