**Position Overview**:
Luke’s Place is seeking a full-time experienced Family Court Support Worker/Legal Support Worker to provide professional delivery of our innovative programs and services to women who have experienced intimate partner abuse. This position requires delivery of in-person services at our Oshawa office, one day every 4 weeks at our Ajax office and in-person appearances at the Durham courthouse.
**You will succeed at Luke’s Place if you are**:
**Independent - **You are self-motivated and manage your time well.As a key go to person in the support team you must be able to organize and reorganize your day to meet often conflicting priorities and deadlines.
**Excellent Communicator -** You bring with you the ability to quickly build rapport with clients and colleagues and you do not shy away from in-person court work or making presentations. Your verbal style must be confident, reassuring, positive and clear.
**Empathetic -** It is imperative that our clients feel seen and heard. You must be an empathetic and active listener who takes the time to truly understand the issues abused women face.
**Responsibilities**:
- Utilize a case management model including conducting needs assessments, providing supportive counselling, and presenting information about the family court process
- Assist women in recording the history of abuse and helping them to build a safety plan
- Debrief and discuss court appearances
- Provide referrals to specialized community services
- Liaise with criminal court-based and family court-based services
- Communicate, collaborate, and maintain relationships with community partner agencies and family court services to advocate for the needs of women
- Ability to work independently and professionally at satellite service sites including the Durham family court
- Conduct workshops and facilitation of support groups
- Participate in delivery of education and training to service the community and the public
**Requirements and Qualifications**:
- Post-secondary diploma or degree in social work, social services, women’s studies, legal studies, or a combination of education and experience
- 3 Years of Support Worker experience
- Proven understanding of gender-based violence consistent with a trauma-informed and a feminist intersectional approach
- Knowledge of family law processes and issues faced by woman abuse survivors within the family law system is considered an asset
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills, and the ability to communicate in a professional and engaging manner
- Ability to structure time, independently set work priorities, and meet program expectations
- Demonstrated strong written and oral advocacy skills
- Proven experience in crisis intervention and empowering clients to achieve goals
- Commitment to growth and self reflection with support from supervisors and/or team members
- Professional case management training an asset
- A valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle
