**JOB TITLE**:Court Intake Worker - Full Time (_Contract until March 31, 2025_)

**PROGRAM**:Partner Assault Response (PAR) Program, Direct Accountability Program (DAP), Reintegration Program; and all other JHSYR programs (when required)

**REPORTS TO**:Program Manager - Adult Services

**LOCATION**:All JHSYR offices (virtually and in-person)

**SALARY**: $47,619 per Annum

John Howard Society of York Region (JHSYR) is a non-profit, charitable organization serving residents of the York Region. The organization works with individuals involved in any stage of criminal justice involvement and their families.

The primary function of the Court Intake Worker will be to work with clients at the Newmarket and Bradford courthouses who require support through PAR, DAP and all other JHSYR programming.. Activities in this role may include, but are not limited to, providing emergency reintegration support for drop-in clients, providing direct referrals to community resources and internal Reintegration Services, providing court system navigational assistance for clients and advocacy follow-up.

Additional support may be required across JHSYR programs, including but not limited to; structured limited counselling for clients and youth focused general programming.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

- Complete individual intake assessments to determine program suitability and appropriate community-based sanctions and/or
- Complete individual intake assessments to determine PAR Program suitability and schedule program start
- Assist in referring clients to internal JHSYR programs by completing program-specific intakes and connecting clients to appropriate staff member for referral
- Communicate with clients regarding program requirements, program dates, various court dates,
- Liaise with Crown Attorneys, Duty Counsel, court staff, interpreters, community partners, private counsel, support workers, etc. to advocate for clients and
- Schedule interpreters for clients requiring language assistance for programming.
- Collect and process program fees, donations, and restitution
- Assist in arranging community service work and/or referrals to external community resources for clients who require
- Exercise a flexible, non-judgmental, anti-racist and anti-oppressive approach to people and
- Support and record the progress of each client and prepare reports for court
- Create, maintain, and organize client files based on program specifications electronically.
- Input statistical data and assist with monthly financial ledgers in tandem with the Team Lead
- Maintain and respect professional boundaries with clients and
- Adhere to agency and Ministry of the Attorney General program policies and
- Regularly attend all-staff and team meetings
- Attend and contribute to community engagement opportunities internal and external as directed by Program Manager
- Complete training as directed by Program Manager and
- Engage in continuous learning as directed by the Program Manager
- Travel to Newmarket courthouse, Bradford courthouse and all other JHSYR offices as needed.
- Other administrative duties as requested by the Program Manager

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Combination of post-secondary degree, diploma and/or certificate and practical experience in a relevant Human Services field
- Minimum of 3 years experience working with criminal justice-involved individuals and diverse communities with an understanding of the barriers and factors leading to criminal justice involvement, socioeconomic barriers and language barriers.
- Lived experience of involvement with the criminal justice system is an asset.
- Ability to speak multiple languages is an asset.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to actively listen and provide an empathetic approach to client interaction through a lens of equity and dignity.
- Ability to maintain relationships with community agencies and stakeholders.
- Strong ability to advocate for clients by upholding and representing JHSYR's mission, principles and core values.
- Professional demeanor with strong rapport and relationship building skills.
- Familiar with various community organizations and resources in the York Region and South Simcoe, with the ability to seek out resources beyond these areas is a strong asset.
- Strong sense of team cohesion and collaboration, with the ability to work independently.
- Highly organized with keen attention to detail and strong prioritization and multi-tasking skills
- Ability to work professionally under pressure and manage daily tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong administrative, technical and organizational skills and abilities
- Knowledge of crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques
- Valid driver’s license and/or ability to move between office locations within limited time frame.
