**FAMILY & YOUTH SUPPORT WORKER**
Job Title: Family & Youth Support Worker (FYSS Worker)
Position: Full time permanent position at 31 hours per week
At LRCA the FYSS team provides support to children aged 6-19 and their families (including siblings, caregivers, support systems) who are experiencing difficulties at home, in their personal life, school, with peers or other relationships, or within the Ladysmith community and surrounding catchment area. Reporting directly to the Program Lead, the FYSS Worker will provide community based, comprehensive and integrated services to youth and family who may be at high risk of experiencing or having past experiences of violence or family breakdowns or addressing immediate safety needs and changes to their living arrangements, resulting in Ministry of Children & Family Development (MCFD) involvement.
**Responsibilities**:
- Coordinate, administer, develop and lead the Youth Work in alignment with LRCA’s Mission, Vision and Values;
- Carry a caseload of approximately 10 Ministry referred clients;
- Create an inclusive, welcoming, and supportive environment for clients accessing services;
- Work collaboratively with FYSS team and Program Manager to screen clients on the waitlist to determine prioritization and worker assignment and conduct intake of clients;
- Provide 1-1 and/or family support to all clients ages 6-19 for 1-3 hours per week as needed, for a service period of approximately 3 months, with possibility of an extension on case-by-case basis;
- Produce monthly capacity reports to be submitted to the Program Manager;
- Plan and facilitate a minimum of two (2) groups per calendar year;
- Collaborate with MCFD Social Workers, CYMH Clinicians, CYSN Social Workers, RCMP/Victim Services, Restorative Justice, school-based teams, and other support people of client(s);
- Participate in Ministry-referred clients Integrated Case Management (ICM’s) meetings and/or Individualized Education Plans (IEP’s) as deemed appropriate;
- Attend Ministry Team Meetings as requested or invited by their Team Leaders;
- Attend community meetings as appropriate to advocate for services in the Ladysmith community;
- Schedule regular case file reviews and attend monthly FYSS Team meetings;
- Collaborate with FYSS Team colleagues for regular check-ins, debriefing peer support;
- Attend relevant community networking and/or training opportunities provided by the LRCA or community partners to increase professional skills and awareness;
- Maintenance of professionalism, ethical behaviour, and confidentiality at all times;
- Complete all paperwork and documentation in a timely manner, including required intake forms, progress notes, and any transition or closure reports;
- Provide mid-way and/or closure reports to Ministry referral-sources, as required, and within respect of confidentiality/best interest of the client/family;
- Make prompt referrals to appropriate additional resources;
- Performs other duties as assigned or reasonably required
**Skills and Abilities**
- Ability to work with sensitivity and without discrimination with people of diverse cultures, races/ethnicity, socio-economic positions, ages, religions, genders, physical/mental health challenges/disabilities and sexual orientations;
- Demonstrated ability to work with people experiencing marginalization and poverty;
- Effective interpersonal communication skills (written/oral), including active listening skills;
- Ability to lead by example, coach with patience, and model positive behaviour.
- Engaging, welcoming and helpful in your approach to people and situations - willing to go above and beyond to assist others;
- Strong leadership skills and ability to develop strong working relationships with clients and community members.
- Able to work both independently and as part of a team;
- Must be a critical thinker who can act on their feet, with the ability to adhere to procedures as needed;
- Knowledge of and ability to employ conflict resolution and diffusing skills as needed;
Qualifications and Experience
- Degree or diploma in social work, child & youth care, psychology, or related field;
- Minimum of 1-year experience working with high-risk families an asset;
- Crisis management, suicide prevention training with Vancouver Island Crisis Society and/or mental health first aid training highly recommended;
- Group facilitation skills/experience an asset;
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint.
Working Conditions
- Must be able to work flexible hours including occasional evenings and weekends;
- Must complete a Criminal Record Check;
- Must possess a valid driver’s licence and possess a vehicle in good working order as offsite travel will be required.
**Salary**: From $23.00 per hour
