Peer Wellness Educators participate in the promotion of health and wellness on campus through the planning, preparation, delivery, and participation in outreach and peer support initiatives throughout the year. Peer Educators are a valuable and effective resource for sharing health information, raising awareness, encouraging positive behaviors, and creating connections for students in post-secondary settings. Peer education encourages healthy and informed choice, fosters safety and inclusion, builds community, and protects against the stressors and adversity that students may face.

The position offers variable hours, 0-12 hours per week, Monday to Friday with occasional evenings and Saturdays for training.

**We are seeking 6-8 students to fill this role.**

**Responsibilities**:
Peer Wellness Educators may take part in some or all of the following:

- Works with a team to plan and implement university-wide initiatives and awareness building campaigns related to student health and wellness, such as Thrive Week and Bell—Let’s Talk.
- Provides support and education to students at events and in one-to-one settings, in the form of answering questions, providing information, and facilitating connections with appropriate resources.
- Develops additional awareness-building initiatives based on the Seven Dimensions of Wellness and in relation to student needs and/or current events.
- Represents the Wellness Centre and provides information and resources regarding Student Counselling Services and mental health/wellness supports at campus-wide events.
- Collaborates with colleagues to create and edit regular content on various health and wellness topics, to be posted on social media.
- Performs administrative tasks related to program planning and organization, as requested.
- Takes part in training and workshops to build knowledge and capacity.
- Co-facilitates psychoeducational groups, presentations, or webinars.

**Qualifications**:

- Interest in and knowledge of health and wellness, particularly in the area of mental health and mental health promotion.
- Knowledge, commitment and demonstrated ability to foster and promote values and principles of human dignity, diversity, equity, cultural safety, and non-discrimination in all aspects of the role.
- Demonstrated understanding of heterosexism, racism, ableism and other oppressions and how they impact individuals and communities.
- A non-judgmental and empathic approach.
- Skills in critical thinking, decision-making, and problem-solving.
- Strong communication skills (oral and written) are required for outreach and resource-sharing, presentations, and development of credible, informative, and engaging content.
- Ability to design and create content for social media in various formats.
- Ability to work independently and cooperatively with others and to contribute to a positive team culture.
- Strong time management and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of peer support, harm-reduction, trauma-informed care an asset.
- Commitment to personal health and wellness.
- Capable of performing other duties as assigned.

**An equivalent combination of education, experience, skills, knowledge and abilities may be considered.**

**Condition(s) of Employment**:

- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
- Must be a full-time student at The University of Winnipeg from September-April and in their second or higher year of studies.
- Must be available to work variable hours Monday-Friday with occasional Saturdays or evenings for training.
- Must be available for a set shift every Friday from 2:30 to 4:30 PM.
