Legal Counsel, Global Procurement and Esg Compliance

We are looking for a skilled and motivated lawyer to join our Global Legal Team. This unique position straddles two critical areas of our organization: Global Procurement and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) compliance initiatives. This role provides a unique opportunity to shape and enhance our global procurement strategies through legal expertise, directly impacting supplier agreements, and to risk manage our programs and practices in relation to environment, social and governance reporting matters.

Key responsibilities:
**Global Procurement (50%)**
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of contractual agreements with global suppliers, including service agreements, purchase agreements, and RFPs.
- Provide strategic legal advice on procurement practices and policies to ensure compliance with applicable legislation and regulations.
- Support the development and maintaining contract templates, guidelines, and procedures to ensure consistency, efficiency, and compliance with internal and external requirements.
- Take part in the management and monitoring of the contract lifecycle, including contract execution, performance, termination, and renewal.
- Assist in the development and implementation of procurement strategies to optimize efficiency and mitigate risks.
- Collaborate with the Global Procurement team to resolve any legal issues that may arise in the procurement process.
- Coordinate with other in-house lawyers and external counsel on cross-functional and cross-border legal matters related to global procurement contracts.
- Provide training and guidance to the global procurement team and other stakeholders on global procurement contract matters.

**Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) Compliance (50%)**
- Support the Legal and ESG teams by providing legal expertise on environmental, social, and governance disclosure requirements, programs, practices and processes.
- Support the enhancement of the company’s ESG maturity by implementing processes and practices that will enhance future reporting practices. Help develop and implement ESG policies and practices that align with legal standards and corporate goals.
- Review the company’s ESG-related global public disclosures.
- Advise on regulatory compliance matters related to ESG initiatives, including sustainability reporting and ethical business practices.
- Assist in preparing for emerging regulatory requirements including the EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and the standards released by the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB).
- Participate in the review of submissions to ratings and rankings.
- Monitor peer practices for ESG reporting requirements

**Qualifications**
- Law degree from an accredited law school and license to practice law in Quebec. FSA Credential from the IFRS Foundation is a plus.
- 2 to 5 years of experience in corporate, securities law and commercial law, including experience advising public companies on their corporate disclosures in private practice for a large law firm. European legal expertise is a plus.
- Strong interest in contractual and commercial law and public company disclosure matters.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders.
- Goodnegotiation and drafting skills along with attention to detail, analytical thinking, and problem-solving.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
- Proficient in legal tech and comfortable and unafraid of leveraging the latest legal technologies and tools to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and data management. Demonstrated ability to adapt to new software and platforms.
- Proficiency in **English **and **French **, both spoken and written, with any additional langua ges being a bonus
