Concordia University’s Department of Art Education is the most extensive Art Education program in the country and one of the largest in the world. Renowned for its theoretical and methodological strengths and its commitment to socially engaged knowledge and social justice, the department houses one of the only BFA Community-based Art Education degree programs in Canada including the BFA Specialization, a unique program that leads to teacher certification in Quebec and is transferable across Canada. While the PhD in Art Education is world class, the MA in Art Education offers two professional pathways where students can pursue a scholarly thesis, a studio arts-based thesis, or a teaching-based thesis. We count among our professoriate a UNESCO co-Chair in Prevention of Radicalisation and Violent Extremism; a Concordia University Research Chair in Art Education for Sustainable and Just Futures; a National Art Education Association Distinguished Fellow with expertise in aesthetic and artistic development; a researcher of performance studies and theory; as well as full-time faculty with expertise in arts-based research; art museum education; creative cultural practices and thesis writing; mobile and social media learning; and Black Studies pertaining to social justice pedagogy.
