Team Lead, Recreation Department

Collingwood Neighbourhood House (CNH) is a not-for-profit Society serving the Renfrew-Collingwood (RC) neighbourhood of East Vancouver. CNH’s mandate is to promote the well-being of the Renfrew-Collingwood community by providing leadership and working collaboratively with individuals, families, agencies and other groups to develop and support inclusive, innovative, sustainable initiatives and services that respond to the community’s social, educational, economic, health, cultural and recreational needs.
JOB OVERVIEW:
This is an experienced management position overseeing all recreation programs at CNH Joyce and Annex location. This would include programs for child and family, adults and seniors. This department is well positioned for growth and the new Team Lead will have the exciting opportunity to steer it into its next phase of development. You will oversee a team including a Part-Time Senior’s Recreation Manager, a Part-Time Program Assistant and approximately 20-25 Part-Time staff and contractor instructors. This position does not oversee youth-based programing as we have a separate department for Youth Services. As part of the CNH management team, you will lead the delivery of high quality and affordable recreation programs to the community including but not limited to day camps, arts and culture programs, and drop in sports and registered programs. You will 1) lead, plan, and draft programs, marketing material, 2) provide budget oversight including setting program fees and available subsidies, and 3) Post, screen, hire and support staff and contractor instructors. This position reports to the Director of Community Services.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Program Planning & Delivery:
- Develop and implement recreation programs at CNH main house, CNH Annex, outdoors, and off-site at partner locations.
- Curate a diverse offering of recreation programs to ensure they are affordable, accessible and enjoyable by program participants.
- Develop and adjust policies and procedures as related to recreation program to ensure safety, accessibility and enjoyment for program participants.
- Ensure program equipment is in good repair and safe to use. Lead the procurement of new equipment and supplies as required.
- Receive program participant feedback, inquiries and complaints and responds as required.
Financial Management & Fundraising:
- Ensure long term sustainability through revenue generation by procuring government and grant funding and setting program fees.
- Together with the team and the director, lead the development of the annual program budget including setting the program fee, available subsidy, program and HR costings
- Monitor expenditure and assist with required financial documentation
- Negotiate contracts and payments to contractor instructors
Public Relations and Marketing:
- Lead the creation of monthly and/or quarterly calendars of events/programs and ensure they are distributed to the community in advance.
- Liaise with the reception and communication team to ensure marketing and program materials are updated and advertised on the online registration portal, website and social media outlets.
Human Resources Management:
- Recruit, supervise and support recreation staff, volunteers, practicum students and contractors.
- Approve and submit payroll staff timesheets and payment contracts.
- Implement CNH Human Resources Policy and Collective Agreement as appropriate.
- Encourage and develop a team-based approach to working as part of the larger Community Services Department.

SKILLS & QUALIFIICATIONS
- Combination of education and or work experience managing recreation programs in non-profit and community setting. Diploma in Recreation Service Delivery an asset.
- Recent, related experience of at least 3 years or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Experienced in working cooperatively in a non-profit and volunteer-based organization.
- Strong planning, research, organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
- Excellent problem solving, conflict resolutions skills including sound leadership judgement and discretion.
- Staff management experience. Experience in a unionized environment is an asset.
- Experience in staff development and evaluation.
- Excellent organizational, project management, budget, and financial administration, interpersonal, and communication skills exhibiting a high level of tact, professionalism, and diplomacy.
- Demonstrated financial management experience including budgeting, reporting and managing budgets Demonstrated administrative and communications skills.
