We are looking for a Technical Officer to join the Low Carbon Fuels and Clean Combustion team to support the Energy, Mining and Environment Research Centre. This person would be someone who shares our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity.

Working closely with our experienced Project Managers and under the supervision of the Team Leader and a senior Technical Officer, you will be responsible for the safe maintenance and operation of laboratory/demonstration scale process equipment, gas analyzers and fuel analysis equipment. You will support projects on the production and utilization of alternative fuels for low carbon combustion, including assisting with the procurement and installation of equipment for the Alternative Fuels and Engine Technology Facility. You will also be assisting with the instrumentation and troubleshooting of different process equipment, analytical instruments and emission measurement devices. You will assist with routine maintenance and operation of the engine test facility, perform fuel characterizations and documenting results.

This position is for a term of two years with the possibility of extension or transfer to a continuing position.

**Screening Criteria**:
**Education**:
A College diploma or University degree in Mechanical Engineering technology or an equivalent combination of experience and education.

**Experience**:

- Experience with mechanical system and process equipment design, installation and operation;
- Experience with the use of hand tools;
- Experience with machine shop tools is an asset;
- Experience with electronic control and automation system is an asset;
- Experience with working safely in a laboratory or industrial environment;
- Experience with National Instruments LabView for programming, control, and data acquisition is an asset;
- Experience with C/C++ programming is an asset;
- Experience with fuel preparation and characterization techniques using analytical equipment is an asset;
- Experience with basic data analysis is an asset; and
- Experience with or knowledge of alternative fuels production and utilization.

Must be able to work in environments where handling of fuels and chemicals are common.

Must be able to handle/lift 20 lbs.

- Basic computer knowledge including, Microsoft Excel, and networking;

- Proficiency in technical communication and reporting on experimental observations and data; and
- Knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety regulations and legislation required to create and maintain a safe and healthy environment.

From $58,544 to $80,040 per annum.
