**The opportunity**

Tata Steel Minerals Canada is currently seeking **an Environmental Technician **to join the **Environment **team to work on a **Fly-in/Fly-out **basis of **2 weeks ON/OFF **to and from the Menihek region in Labrador, near the town of Schefferville, QC. Operations at our mine site are running 24/7 all yearlong. Standard work schedules are of **12 hours per day**.

The main pick-up points are St. John’s, Gander, Deer Lake and Happy Valley-Goose Bay in NL, Halifax, NS, Moncton, NB, and Montreal and Quebec City, QC.

Reporting to the site-based Senior Environmental Coordinator/Advisor and working with direction from other Environmental team members, the Environmental Technician will efficiently execute a variety of field tasks under mínimal supervision while complying with strict health and safety rules and practices.

In order to fulfill these responsibilities, the incumbent will be expected to manage and handle the following working conditions; A fast-paced environment, extreme weather conditions, working outdoors, handling heavy loads, physically demanding, attention to detail, hand-eye co-ordination, combination of sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching, kneeling.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Environmental Sampling (air, ground/surface water, industrial wastewater, soil, noise), maintaining field equipment and preparing samples for laboratory analysis (shipment off site);
- Collect regulatory data from other departments and draft monthly and/or annual compliance
- reports;
- Communicate with contractors and owner representatives regarding upcoming activities associated
- potential environmental impacts, and applicable mitigations;
- Draft monitoring reports with photo documentation of site activities;
- Participate in and lead field audits and inspections;
- Manage environmental projects and support other departments on environmental best practices,
- methods, and options;
- Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and
- regulations;
- Ensuring that fuel and other environmental incidents are properly reported and cleaned up;
- Perform other related duties as required (the above describes the general nature and level of work

**EXPERIENCE/SKILLS**
- Strong knowledge of and experience with installation and inspection of erosion and sediment
- control, and spill prevention and response;
- Experience in remote work settings and on shift/rotations preferred;
- Valid driver’s license and a good driving record are essential;
- Excellent field skills required (e.g., GPS navigation, sample integrity, hazard recognition and
- mitigation, problem solving, 4x4 truck use);
- Able to thrive in a dynamic work environment, which requires managing competing priorities and
- deadlines, and frequently adjusting to planned activities and approaches;
- Resilient and adaptable;
- Requires work outdoors, at times in adverse weather, around heavy equipment, on uneven ground,
- in and around water and wild animals;
- Bilingual is an asset.
