**Duties**:

- Interacting with visitors to support a quality experience, providing information, direction and sales of goods and services;
- Addressing and resolving visitor concerns and complaints;
- Routine cleaning of facilities, emptying of garbage and recycling bins, sweeping, vacuuming and mopping;
- Lead of Visitor Centre and gift shop operations.

**Work environment**:
Completed in 1895, the Sault Ste. Marie Canal formed the last link in an all-Canadian navigation system stretching from the St. Lawrence River to Lake Superior. Designed and built by Canadians, the canal incorporated several engineering innovations. It was the world's longest lock and the first to operate with electrical power. It was also novel in using an emergency swing dam to protect the lock in case of accident. Electricity was generated on site in the powerhouse. Closed in 1987 owing to a lock wall failure, the canal was equipped with a modern lock and opened for recreational use in 1998.

EDUCATION
- A secondary school diploma or acceptable combination of education, training and experience in a field related to the position

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE
- Experience in interacting with the public in a reception/orientation capacity
- Experience in maintenance of facilities
- Experience with Point-of-Sale systems and cash handling
- Experience working within a team

**Conditions of employment**:

- Obtain and maintain Reliability Status security clearance including fingerprints
- Possession and maintenance of a valid Class G driver’s license

This position requires the incumbent to:

- Make moderate physical effort to sit and stand for prolonged periods
- Be exposed to variable weather conditions
- Occasionally demonstrate tasks to others
- Work shift-work, and/or weekends, and/or statutory holidays and provincial/territorial holidays, when required
- Wear a Parks Canada uniform as per the uniform policy and/or dress in period costume as per Parks Canada requirements
