**ABOUT US**

Skwachàys (pronounced skwatch-eyes) Lodge is a social enterprise located in Downtown Vancouver, combining exceptional hospitality amongst 18 one-of-a-kind Indigenous themed guest rooms with a street-level Indigenous Fair
Trade Gallery. The Lodge is operated by Vancouver Native Housing Society (VNHS) and is Canada's first Indigenous Arts and Culture Hotel and host of a renowned Artist-in-Residence Program. Reporting to the Manager, the Gallery Assistant supports/assists with planning and execution of all activities related to the daily operations of the Skwacháys Lodge Fair
Trade Art Gallery, including exhibits and artist cultivation. The Gallery Assistant will be helpful in achieving Skwachàys goal of funding a 24-unit artists-in-residence program.

**ABOUT YOU**

You are outgoing, enthusiastic and people-centred with broad knowledge and informed interest in Aboriginal art and visual culture, public and private, national and international exhibition spaces. You ensure that everyone entering the Gallery is warmly greeted and engaged. Your natural skills and strengths include creativity, superior sales/marketing, commercial awareness and merchandising, and you have the physical stamina for organizing and setting up exhibitions. Indigenous art native to BC and the west coast is of genuine interest to you, and you have a proven track record of administrative proficiency, great communications and efficient time management.

You have a pleasant and professional disposition, and you approach your role with flexibility, team spirit and respect for all. You are relationally agile and able to work with all types of people and prioritize tasks and you’re great at solving problems and handling unexpected issues with great follow through.

**THE ROLE**
- Keeping records of all invoices, purchases, petty cash and other expenditure
- Opening/closing the building and exhibitions
- Shipping artwork to purchasers
- Monitoring and processing retail sales including website sales
- Purchasing gallery supplies
- Overseeing maintenance of exhibitions and the building in coordination with team members; ensuring the gallery is clean, orderly and well-maintained (ensuring high standards are kept by staff)
- Greeting, engaging gallery visitors
- Understanding and ensuring fair trade practices are upheld
- Maintaining master calendar; meeting marketing, installation and preparation deadlines
- General upkeep of gallery inventory including labelling, pricing and merchandising/displays
- Updating acquisitions, catalogues, sales records, invoicing artists and corporate clients
- Archives management

**To be the best fit for this position you will need**:

- Diploma or post-secondary degree in business, marketing, gallery administration or related discipline an asset
- Minimum two years experience in a similar role
- Proven sales ability
- Retail sales experience and knowledge of Indigenous culture and art
- Professional appearance and demeanor
- Proficiency is using technology, particularly websites and social media
- Strong time management and organizational skills
- Flexibility in availability for working hours

**Salary**: $18.00-$24.00 per hour
