**Role Responsibilities**:
The Alberta government has legislative authority to certify child care staff under the Early Learning and Child Care Act (Standards and certification, section 24.1) and Early Learning and Child Care Regulation (Part 3 - Child Care Certification).

The ECE Education Assessor fulfills an integral role in the Branch in meeting the goals of Children and Family Services Business plan outcomes, with respect to access to early learning and childcare that enables parents and families to participate in training, education or the workforce.

In Alberta, the Early Learning and Child Care Act requires individuals who work in licensed child care programs to have provincial certification. This applies to both facility-based programs (daycare, out-of-school care, and preschool), and home-based programs (family day home providers) operating under a licensed agency. Certification is how the provincial government reviews the education and abilities of child care staff. Staff working in licensed child care programs must be certified within six months of being hired.

As an ECE Education Assessor, you will be responsible for the following key activities in the branch but not limited to:

- Evaluate the educational credentials of individual applicants, that have completed education in Canada or internationally, to determine the comparable level of education achieved to Alberta Child Care Staff Certification training standards.
- Process and approve exemptions from the Staff Qualifications requirements.
- Develop effective working relationships with other provincial ministries, training and educational institutions, assessment and certification services and the Early Learning and Child Care community to promote and enhance the Child Care Staff Certification unit.
- Perform supervisory/administrative responsibilities.
- Execute system development, evaluations, training, and support.
- Assist in the creation and development of communications material to support program activities, inform and promote the role of the Child Care Staff Certification office to the child care community and the general public.

- Reviews exemption requests and either makes decisions (level 1) or makes recommendations to supervisor (levels 2& 3).

**Qualifications**:
High school diploma and three years of related experience.

**Equivalency**:
Directly related experience or education considered on the basis of:

- one year of experience for one year of education or
- one year of education for one year of experience.
