The Education Supports Sector provides policy direction, approves funding, provides school accreditation services, administers programs, and builds system capacity that promotes an inclusive education system for children and students. Within the Education Supports Sector, the Learner Supports Branch provides supports for programs and services that impact the education of students. This includes leadership and support to school authorities to address chronic absenteeism, supports for students from low incidence populations (blindness or visual impairment, deafness or hard of hearing, deafblindness and complex communication needs), and in administrative or dispute resolution requirements with school authorities.

**Role Responsibilities**:
Reporting to the Education Manager, this position functions within the parameters of applicable government and ministry legislation, regulations, policies, directives and procedures in order to administer programs and services that impact the education of children and students.
- The Low Incidence Provincial Coordinator is assigned responsibility for the following:

- Responsible and accountable for Travelling Low Vision Clinics across the province to further advance the low incidence work in the area of visual impairment with school authorities and the students that they serve.
- Responsible for recruitment, on boarding, workload management, management, and oversight of the provincial low incidence contracted specialists.
- Responsible for working alongside with stakeholders, partners, and ministry staff to identify education program needs of children and students from low incidence populations.
- Collaborates with post-secondary institutions and school authorities to increase the number of low incidence specialists within the province.
- Work with the other members of the Low Incidence Supports and Services Unit to ensure alignment with the development of the low incidence supports and services strategic plan.
- Identifies opportunities to collaborate with other ministries or stakeholders (e.g. CNIB, Alberta Aids to Daily Living) to improve supports and services to low incidence populations.
- Drafts communications related to low incidence work, including briefing notes, correspondence, webpages, presentations, webinars, print and electronic communication to school authorities, internal partners and stakeholders.

**Qualifications**:
University graduation in a related field (Social Work, Education, Psychology) plus 4 years progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent as described below.
