Job description
**Bridge Street Retirement Residence is a 61 bed assisted living facility located in the east side of Belleville. In operation since 1989, our mandate is to provide a welcoming and comforting home for our residents in conjunction with exceptional quality of care and services from our staff.**
**Responsibilities**:
Part-time and relief cooks will support all guest attendant staff and ensure the quality of food preparation and service meets and exceeds Bridge Street Retirement Residence’s standards on a daily basis. The incumbent will be responsible for monitoring and maintaining kitchen inventories, and adhering to sanitation standards.

**Job Duties**:
- Ensure the quality of food preparation and service meets or exceeds facility standards in acceptability, quality, appearance and palatability by inspecting visually, tasting and smelling.
- Receive all food and sundry deliveries upon delivery and ensure the quality of the groceries meets facility standards.
- Communicate in a strong, effective and polite manner with all departments affecting the kitchen.
- Ensure all sanitation and safety standards are adhered to. Maintain all documentation required in accordance with provincial, corporate and facilities regulations, guidelines and policies. (eg. temperature and sanitation logs)
- Ensure order, cleanliness and hygiene is maintained in the various kitchen areas including refrigerators, freezer, pantry and storerooms. That food products are stored, dated and rotated to ensure high standards of freshness and in accordance with provincial regulations.
- Take an active role in the production, and presentation of “home cooked style meals”, maintaining the highest quality possible, while adhering to menu expectations.
- Conducts themselves in a professional, positive and calm manner.
- Problem solves, instructs and assists staff on how to de-escalate resident issues, concerns or complaints regarding their meals, allergies, preferences or service during any dining service.
- Strive to advance your knowledge, skills and abilities and consistently share these with fellow staff.
- Responds in a positive and timely manner to all internal and external resident’s requests and/or complaints, while meeting the Bridge Street Retirement Residence standards, ensuring we exceed resident’s expectations and dining experience.
- Works with all departments, FSS and Management to facilitate special events, promoting Bridge Street, and positive community relationships.
- Practice proper grooming, personal hygiene, and uniform standards.
- Carry out other related duties, which may be assigned from time to time in liaison with Management and FSS.
- Adhere to all Bridge Street Retirement Residence Guidelines, Policies, Rules and Regulations; this may include emergency response meal planning, emergency preparations and instructions to staff.
**Shifts: 6:00 am-2:00 pm or 11:30am-7:30pm**
**Hours: 4 shifts biweekly for a total of 30 hours**
**Requirements**: Minimum of one year culinary school training and/or a minimum of one year cooking experience in a retirement or restaurant setting Current Food Safe certificate Knowledge and understanding of therapeutic diets and nutrition Basic skills and knowledge of computers and software Good communication skills Physically fit with the ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 20 lbs. Good knife skills Exemplary customer service skills and attitude Mental alertness and ability to quickly problem solve while multi tasking

Pay: $17.17 per hour
