As a part of the Continuing Care Division, the Continuing Care Branch is responsible for leading continuing care system transformation which includes the development of provincial policy and legislation for continuing care (home and community care, licensed supportive living and long-term care) and the implementation of changes designed to support these changes and continuously improve quality. We lead a number of key high-priority initiatives within the Ministry of Health and work closely with other ministries, Alberta Health Services, clients and their families and other support persons, operators, providers and other health and service delivery stakeholders in planning for and monitoring continuing care programs and services.

The Continuing Care Branch is looking for two Clinical Advisors to join the home and community care and continuing care homes teams.

Roles and Responsibilities:
With your extensive clinical background, you will contribute to evidence-informed policy options and recommendations. Using your diplomacy and high-level written and verbal communication skills, you will interact and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders on various current and emerging issues. To be successful in this role, you will need to effectively work under pressure and provide critical analysis that can be synthesized into sound policy direction and recommendations. Ideally, you will also have in-depth clinical and continuing care-specific knowledge (home care, palliative care, supportive living and long-term care) and experience.

**Role continued**:
Continuing Care Homes (1 Clinical Advisor):
Reporting to the Manager of Policy, Standards and Quality for Continuing Care Homes, immediate focus will be to:

- Support the implementation and changes required to enable the updated continuing care legislative framework (e.g., identifying and/or developing supportive resources to assist operators and their staff to understand and implement changes as they relate to continuing care homes);
- Lead (part of a team) updates to existing care and accommodation standards and identify policy recommendations for the development of updated or new standards/policy, especially as they relate to continuing care homes;
- Lead, working with stakeholders, the development and implementation of program/policy changes that improve the quality of care and quality of life for those living in continuing care homes, including consideration of the needs of family caregivers as well as people living with dementia (e.g., advancing recommendations arising from the Facility-based continuing care review);
- Monitor continuing care quality indicators and measures to evaluate policy directions and identify system wide emerging trends, addressing emerging issues as those arise (e.g., may include, but not be limited to, ongoing pandemic response).

Home and Community Care (1 Clinical Advisor):
Reporting to the Manager of System Improvement for Home and Community Care, immediate focus will be to:

- Support the implementation of continuing care transformation and shifting care to the community, including supporting expansion of adult day program and respite capacity.
- Lead (as part of a team) and oversee project initiatives focused on providing more choice for home care clients and enabling an increasing proportion of continuing care clients to remain at home.
- Develop and implement measures to evaluate and monitor initiatives focused on expanding home and community care in Alberta.

**Qualifications**:
A University degree in a health profession (including, but not limited to nursing, social work, occupational therapy, physical therapy, recreation therapy, etc.) related to the position and a minimum of four years of related experience is required. Must be a regulated member of the appropriate college if required by the Health Professions Act.
