Archaeological Field Director

Earthworks is a small archaeological firm that conducts surveys across southern and eastern Ontario and has offices in Hamilton, Windsor, St. Thomas and Peterborough. We carry out Stage 1 to 4 archaeological assessments throughout Southern Ontario and we pride ourselves on being a multidisciplinary team that trains and encourages career advancement and growth.

Earthworks Archaeological Services Inc. is hiring an Archaeological Field Director for the 2024 field season. The position will cover projects in the Hamilton/ Niagara areas.

**Requirements**:

- Archaeological Applied Research License in good standing with the Ministry of Citizenship and Multiculturalism
- Extensive knowledge of the Standards and Guidelines for Consultant Archaeologists
- Must have own transportation. Mileage and drive time provided
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team setting
- Willingness to learn and take direction as required
- Ability to work in an outdoor setting in a variety of conditions (cold and hot temperatures, light rain), while completing vigorous manual labour activities including kneeling, shoveling, screening and hiking over difficult terrain
- Must be capable of performing repetitive movement tasks
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs
- Ability to work 10-12 hours at a time when required
- Ability to travel and hotel overnight for up to four nights a week. Per Diem provided

**Responsibilities**
- Direct stage 2-4 archaeological projects, while participating in excavation and data recording
- Engage with First Nations and clients
- Organize, supervise and train field technicians
- Organize, record and transport artifacts and collection to the laboratory
- Be willing to be a respectful and professional representative of the company when interacting with members of the public and property owners

**Salary**: Pay is graded by experience and qualifications, starting $25.00

**Schedule**: 8-12-hour shifts between Monday-Friday. Hours will vary week to week and are dependent on timelines, weather and travel. On-call.
