The Ontario Forensic Pathology Service's mission is to provide the highest quality forensic pathology service aimed at contributing to the administration of justice, preventing premature death and protecting public safety.
As the Deputy Chief Forensic Pathologist you will support the planning, organization, direction and administration of the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service (OFPS) under the Coroners Act to provide high quality forensic pathology services to coroners, families, the public, police, Crown Attorneys, lawyers and courts in Ontario.
You will assume responsibility for complex cases as a certified expert in the specialized field of forensic pathology, as well as provide support to the quality management system for medicolegal autopsies.
**About us**: Under the leadership of the Chief Forensic Pathologist, registered forensic pathologists in the OFPS perform autopsies ordered by coroners. Forensic pathologists regularly provide expert witness testimony in the inquest court, the Ontario Court of Justice, the Superior Court of Justice and sometimes the Ontario Court of Appeal. OFPS pathologists perform approximately 10,000 coroner-ordered autopsies each year. Most of these autopsies occur in Forensic Pathology Units located in Toronto, Kingston, London, Sault Ste. Marie, Sudbury, Ottawa and Thunder Bay. Pathologists employed in community hospitals also provide autopsy services through the OFPS. The OFPS works closely with the Office of the Chief Coroner to ensure a coordinated and collaborative approach to death investigation in the public interest.
**OPS Commitment to Diversity, Inclusion, Accessibility, and Anti-Racism**: We are committed to build a workforce that reflects the communities we serve and to promote a diverse, anti-racist, inclusive, accessible, merit-based, respectful and equitable workplace.
Visit the **OPS Anti-Racism Policy** and the **OPS Diversity and Inclusion Blueprint** pages to learn more about the OPS commitment to advance racial equity, accessibility, diversity, and inclusion in the public service.
We offer employment accommodation across the recruitment process and all aspects of employment consistent with the requirements of Ontario's **Human Rights Code**. Refer to the "How to apply" section if you require a disability-related accommodation.
