**PLANT MANAGER**

**(Permanent, full-time - 40 hours per week)**

**Location**:Sudbury, Ontario**

**DSI Underground Canada Ltd. (DSI’s)** scope of business includes the manufacturing and supply of ground support equipment for the mining industries. Its systems are known worldwide for innovation, quality and reliability. Their plant in Northern Ontario is currently seeking an enthusiastic and dependable individual to join our Management Team.

The Plant Manager will direct and manage all plant operations through a team of functional managers and supervisors with overall responsibilities for production, maintenance, quality, and other production-related activities. Ensures increasing levels of customer and employee satisfaction while improving the efficiency of manpower, materials, and machines.

**Reports to: Director of Operations**

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Budgets and Cost Control
- Monitor and ensure that production costs are consistent and competitive.
- Participate in developing capital and operating budgets with regards to production activities. Ensure that the plant operates within related budgets.
- Manage capital assets and submit capital requests and justifications to company board.

Communication
- Ensure that effective systems are in place for proper and regular reporting of the results.
- Communicate with co-workers, management, customers, and others in a courteous and professional manner.

Managing People / People Development
- Responsible for plant staff (including staffing levels) as well as any future production areas that could result due to growth.
- Ensure that effective performance improvement plans are initiated, and appropriate disciplinary actions are in-line with company policies and meet corporate guidelines.
- Establish and implement appropriate standards and benchmarks throughout departments to measure performance and efficiencies.
- Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures, and instructions.

Initiative
- Embrace lean and support lean philosophies, 6S and Six Sigma.
- Ensure plant meets or exceeds the highest safety standards including all compliance with OHSA requirements.
- Ensure compliance with quality management systems and ISO standards

Leadership
- Direct and manage plant operations for production, maintenance, and quality, shipping, and receiving.
- Ensure that accountability exists among direct staff members regarding agreed upon performance against standards and benchmarks and on performance towards achieving the department’s goals and objectives.
- Coordinate plant activities through Front-Line Supervisors to ensure manufacturing objectives are accomplished in a timely and cost-effective manner.
- Provide direction, leadership, mentoring and training to supervisors and staff to accomplish company goals and objectives.
- Support Sales by meeting requested delivery dates and maintaining production levels to meet customers' demand.
- Complete other duties as assigned to meet business needs.
- 5 years of general/plant management experience in a manufacturing environment or bachelor’s degree in related field
- Background in manufacturing methods and process improvement programs.
- Experience working in an environment that is ISO 9001, 14001 and 18001 certified.
- Excellent interpersonal and people management skills.
- Strong verbal/written communication skills.
- Ability to work and interface with all departments.
- Ability to identify and resolve issues or concerns tactfully and in a timely manner.
- Ability to gather and analyze information
- Green Belt lean Six Sigma, Black Belt preferred but not required
- Physically able to work seated in front of a computer for long hours at a time.
