**Course Information**:
ENVRSUST 9016 - ENVRSUST 9016 001 & 002 - United Nations Sustainable Development Goals: Think Globally, Act Locally

This course is designed to help Western graduate students engage deeply with the SDGs and tackle key questions. Sustainability is an imperative for strategic thinking in today’s changing world and is increasingly being prioritized by individuals, academic institutions, corporations, and the international community. By practically engaging with the SDGs framework in a local context, this course offers students the opportunity to (1) “think globally, act locally” on sustainability issues, (2) integrate learning between academic and community life, (3) cultivate industry
- and academy
- oriented skills ranging from critical thinking, project management, and research development to collaboration, communication, and leadership. Students will complete a range of readings, assignments, and final projects to help demonstrate their understanding of the SDGs.

**Please Note** that the MES program plans to have two sections for this course, that will be taught concurrently:¿¿
- Both sections will run at the same time. Two instructors will be hired.
- This course will run in person and online (hybrid) with asynchronous and synchronous online components as well as in-person class time
- In-person classes will be offered approximately every other week 9:00 and 12:00 during the fall semester 2024 (6 sessions) regularly on Thursdays
- On weeks where there is no in-person teaching, instructors will be expected to engage online with students either synchronously (e.g., via Zoom) or asynchronously (e.g., Discussion boards)
- Some weeks in the schedule, the course will be delivered on an alternative day (e.g., Tuesday or Friday)

**Responsibilities**:
You will be responsible for all activities associated with the successful delivery of the course, including but not limited to: developing, preparing, and delivering the course; setting and marking examinations, assessing the academic work of students, and reporting grades.

**Qualifications**:
In accordance with the Faculty Collective Agreement, consideration of applicants will include an assessment of previous performance, experience, and qualifications, including qualifications which go beyond the requirements for the position.
