The Centre for Environment and Sustainability (CES), is an interdisciplinary initiative supported by the Faculty of Science (host faculty), Faculty of Engineering and Faculty of Social Science, and other contributing faculties. It is home to the Master of Environment and Sustainability program and the Collaborative Environment and Sustainability program.
**Course Information**:
ENVRSUST 9011B - Foundations of Sustainability
The foundations course is specifically designed to cover a broad range of issues in sustainability from the history of environmental science and current sustainability practices to the ethics of sustainability and the future of sustainable development. The foundations course focuses on developing skills for employment opportunities in sustainability including local NGOs, applied academic research, government policy, international diplomacy and corporate sustainability. Case studies are specially selected to integrate theory with applied practice and build a diverse collection of real-world examples for graduates to draw upon in the future.
**Please Note** that the MES program plans to have two sections for this course:
- One section will be offered in person on **Tuesday morning between 9:00 and 12:30** during the winter semester 2023 for 11 sessions — the instructors can schedule classes to achieve 35 contact-hours throughout the semester (e.g., 3.5 hours per week for 10 sessions).
- The second section will be delivered in person on **Tuesday afternoon from 1:30 to 5:00** during the winter semester 2023 for 11 sessions — the instructors can schedule classes to achieve 35 contact-hours throughout the semester (e.g., 3.5 hours per week for 10 sessions).
- The Instructor should be prepared to deliver this course in an online format if required due to pandemic restrictions.
**Responsibilities**:
You will be responsible for all activities associated with the successful delivery of the course, including but not limited to: developing, preparing, and delivering the course; setting and marking examinations, assessing the academic work of students, and reporting grades.
**Qualifications**:
In accordance with the Faculty Collective Agreement, consideration of applicants will include an assessment of previous performance, experience, and qualifications, including qualifications which go beyond the requirements for the position. Applicants should have fluent written and oral communication skills in English.
