**Indigenous Internship Program**

The Indigenous Internship Program (IIP) is a 12-month paid internship program designed to provide recent Indigenous (First Nations, Métis, Inuit) post-secondary graduates, with the opportunity to gain professional level work experience and a pathway through which they can build and develop transferable skills that can be used to gain sustained employment in their field of choice.

You must self-identify as an Indigenous person to be eligible for this program. The term Indigenous refers to individuals who identify as being descended from the original inhabitants (the first peoples) of what is now known as Canada. In this context, Indigenous people are First Nations, Métis and/or Inuit.

- work in a team-based environment and undertake assignments on your own on project-planning and implementation activities related to research, needs assessments and service delivery, conduct research and analysis, develop recommendations, prepare papers/reports to improve programs and their efficiency
- analyzing information and data and identifying trends to support the development of evidence-based findings and recommendations
- participating in consultations with program stakeholders to support quality services and improve customer satisfaction
- assist in processes, risk assessments and program evaluation to develop options for program improvements
- review the quality and accessibility of publicly-available program information and recommending improvements
- prepare briefing materials, planning documents and reports to support ongoing programs and services

**How do I qualify?**:
**Mandatory**: Mandatory
- You must have graduated or will complete the requirements to graduate with a degree, diploma or post-graduate certificate from a recognized or legally authorized post-secondary institution within the last five years of May 2018-June 2023.
- You must self-identify as an Indigenous person. The term Indigenous refers to individuals who identify as being descended from the original inhabitants (the first peoples) of what is now known as Canada. In this context, Indigenous people are First Nations, Métis and/or Inuit.
- You must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

**Analytical and research skills**:

- You understand research and analytical practices to source and analyze a variety of information and data, as well as identify trends to support the development of evidence-based findings and recommendations.
- You have knowledge of program analysis and evaluation techniques to assess the effectiveness of new/changed policies and programs.
- You have knowledge of general approaches and considerations for resource planning, business planning, program development and performance measurement.

**Communication skills**:

- You can prepare and present various documents, including presentations, reports and summaries using clear language.
- You can clearly and concisely communicate complex information.
- You have demonstrated written and verbal skills to consult with various stakeholders/program managers/directors and to develop clear and concise materials and presentations.
