**Position Summary**
The Manager, Media Relations, Centennial College is a valued member of the College Communications team, which is dedicated to elevating and defending Centennial’s public profile and keeping the College community informed through communications that reinforce institutional goals and objectives.

**Responsibilities**
- Develop and implement a proactive media relations strategy to build profile and strategically position the College in the highly competitive and changing global environment.
- Establish and maintain a Centennial newsroom - an online vehicle intended to promote College stories to journalists and influencers and connect us more effectively with industry and community partners.
- Interface with media outlets, manage requests for information and actively pitch stories.
- Work closely with Centennial faculty, staff and students on media relations matters, provide media training, counsel and preparation, generate potential interview opportunities and secure media opportunities for designated spokespersons.
- Oversee the maintenance of media databases and lists using various media monitoring tools.
- Responsible for keeping the College’s Crisis and Emergency Communications plans up-to-date.
- Research, write and/or edit news releases, media advisories, opinion/thought pieces, statements, talking points, fact sheets and other materials for media outreach.
- Draft executive speeches, scripts and announcements on behalf of the President.
- Oversee production and dissemination of the College’s weekly employee newsletter (CCthisweek) including managing submissions, copyediting content, template set up, evaluation and list management.
- Utilize measurement tools to assess and track the effectiveness of media outreach campaigns and overall strategy to inform media planning and decision-making.
- Prepare reports and briefs for divisional updates and Board reporting.
- Contribute to the planning and development of the annual operational strategies and annual budget as part of the College Communications management team.

**Qualifications/Experience**
- Four (4) year degree or equivalent with a focus in Public Relations, Journalism, Communications, English or other relevant area.
- Minimum five (5) years of experience in media relations, as a Communications or Public Relations Manager in a corporate or institutional environment, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Familiarity with and understanding of a complex, multi-stakeholder environment and sensitivity to issues impacting organizational reputation.
- Experience and proven success in developing pitches and garnering media placements.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and public speaking capabilities.
- Media-savvy sensibility and demonstrated experience leading crisis communications responses in a corporate and/or higher education environment.
- Strong critical thinking, research and problem-solving abilities.
- Experience and ability to serve as a college spokesperson on corporate matters as necessary.
- Strong problem solving and decision-making skills to identify problems, determine possible solutions, and select appropriate actions.
- Excellent judgement and the ability to be flexible and diplomatic.
- Strong planning, time management, and organizational skills; ability to complete tasks and meet deadlines, while working with competing priorities and interruptions.
- Strong interpersonal, leadership, collaboration, teamwork, and people skills.
- Effective ability to interact with others and deal with situations in ways that respect diverse backgrounds, experience and styles.
- Flexibility in adapting to change and in participating in consultative decision-making processes.
- Familiarity with media monitoring tools, e.g. Meltwater, Cision.
- Proficient computer skills including Office 365,
