Natural Resources and Northern Development is responsible for leading the policy development and program delivery that fosters responsible resource development for the benefit of all Manitobans. This will be achieved by working in partnership with Indigenous and northern communities, industry, and non-government organizations to develop planning frameworks and science-based management plans that ensure the sustainable use of Manitoba’s fish, forests and wildlife.

The Resource Management and Protection Division delivers programs and services that balance sustainable economic development with ecosystem management related to Manitoba's fish and wildlife resources. The Wildlife Branch ensures sustainable wildlife populations through innovative and science-based management and habitat programs.

Conditions of Employment:

- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Must be physically able to undertake the duties of the position, including conducting field work in rough terrain and on water, during all seasons and under adverse weather conditions
- Must be able to work evenings, weekends and overtime as required
- Must be able to travel to and work in remote locations for extended periods within the Province of Manitoba, travelling by various means such as chartered aircraft, boat, ATV, and snowmobile
- Must possess and maintain a valid full stage Manitoba Class 5 licence

Qualifications:
Essential:

- Degree in biology, zoology or resource management and/or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Experience developing, implementing, and evaluating wildlife management actions, plans, programs and projects, including wildlife field programs.
- Experience supervising staff, including addressing performance management issues, developing work plans and learning/training plans.
- Superior interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships with stakeholders and all levels of government.
- Superior verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate and present to all levels of the organization and to external stakeholders.
- Superior written communication skills, including the ability to prepare brief, concise and accurate briefing materials that distill complex issues for decision-makers.
- Experience working with indigenous communities including familiarity with the indigenous consultation process
- Experience in budget planning administration and management
- Strong organizational and time management skills including the ability to prioritize work activities to meet deadlines

**Duties**:
Reporting to the manager of the Wildlife Management Section, the Game and Fur Manager is responsible for the planning, development, and overall administration of all management programs relating to big game, game birds, and furbearers for the Province. Responsibilities include budget planning and administration; program and policy development at the provincial and regional level; program implementation and evaluation; staff supervision; client service; resource inventory; planning and allocation, as well as representing departmental wildlife interests on provincial and national working groups.

The Game and Fur Manager is responsible for working with and maintaining relationships with key stakeholder groups, rural communities, and indigenous communities and organizations. The position will ensure that all species management plans are created with a high level of scientific rigor, requiring strong collaboration with internal science staff as well as external experts. Working in partnership with internal colleagues and external partners, the position is required to create and regularly update sustainable management plans for all game and furbearer species in Manitoba.
