We are seeking a Claims Officer to join our team for a term of approximately 24 months. Under the general direction of the
Department Manager, Waterways Programming, and based out of Cross Lake, the Claims Officer will undertake a lead role in
investigations and negotiations of personal property claims associated with Manitoba Hydro's development and operations and
provide recommendations to senior management when required. This position is responsible for full documentation of and response
to claims submitted against the Corporation. This position entails a high degree of external contact requiring tact, discretion,
judgement and negotiation skills. The Claims Officer is required to make day-to-day decisions regarding claims and associated
matters without necessarily obtaining advice and direction from management. Will ensure safe work practices are followed.
**_ Responsibilities:_**
- Lead in investigating, documenting, and negotiating personal property claims against the Corporation (primarily boat and
motor claims, fishnet losses and replacements, and snowmobile damages and repairs).
- Conduct field reconnaissance and inspections; prepare documentation, analysis, and detailed reports of onsite inspections.
- Communicates directly with external parties (i.e., claimants) on behalf of the Corporation throughout the claims process
- (responsible for conveying both favorable and unfavorable written and verbal responses in writing).
- Participates in the investigation of arbitration claims against the Corporation and in providing recommendations to
- management and legal counsel on dealing with various claims including personal injury and death when required.
- Provide regular input/updates on budget, variances, status of claims and related programs to management/claims team.
- Assist in establishing and implementing Mitigation associated with extreme water level events (e.g., droughts and floods) for
- impacted communities and resource user groups.
- Liaison with community members to strengthen relations with community members and external customers.
- Assist the Field Supervisors in working with the communities to determine the needs of the waterways users and implement
- directed actions to facilitate those needs.
- Provide leadership, direction, and supervision to staff as required.
- Ensure the successful completion of work performed by contractors as required.
**_ Qualifications:_**
- A four-year degree from a university of recognized standing, plus two years of directly related experience to the duties and
responsibilities.
OR
- A two-year diploma in a directly related discipline from an institute of recognized standing, with a minimum of four years of
directly related experience to the duties and responsibilities.
OR
- Equivalent education and experience as determined by line management.
- Ability to provide direction and supervision to others.
- Sound understanding and knowledge of the Northern Flood Agreement and communities.
- Demonstrated ability and initiative in performing and completing duties, including the preparation of necessary reports, with a

- minimum of supervision and direction.
- Ability to hold information in the strictest confidence.
- Ability to prepare detailed and accurate reports of fieldwork and concerns of resource users.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience as a skilled boat operator.
- Ability to exercise assertive yet tactful approaches in relations with claimants and other external parties.
- Ability and willingness to travel to throughout Manitoba, including to remote communities, for multiple days at a time.
- Familiar with and adhere to Manitoba Hydro's Corporate safety policies and the Manitoba Workplace Safety and Health Act

- Knowledge and ability to enter daily reports and technical data on a laptop computer.
- Must possess a valid Manitoba Driver's Licence.
- Preference will be given to individuals who speak Cree.

Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The range for the classification is $32.18-$44.51 Hourly,
